Bailey ‘to apply by Friday’ for GenSec position

‘Moderate’ Bex Bailey is to apply by Friday for the position of Labour Party General Secretary, according to Labour sources.

In 2016, Ms Bailey – a former Young Labour representative on Labour’s NEC (National Executive Committee) – attacked plans to give the NEC more control over Labour policy and staff appointments.

There is therefore a certain irony in her decision to apply for an appointment that will be decided by the NEC – especially as she first mentioned her intention to apply in a tweet using the #InspiredByLansman hashtag. Lansman had floated the NEC plans to which Ms Bailey objected so strongly.

Ms Bailey attempted to win election to the NEC as a ‘CLP’ representative in 2016 on the Labour First/Progress ‘slate’, alongside Johanna Baxter, Luke Akehurst and others.

  1. Being under 30yrs old Bex Bailey would have to be a truly exceptional person to have gained enough experience and maturity to be GenSec of the largest political party in Europe

  3. Just another neo-liberal who hasn’t realised their time has been and gone…

  4. I doubt that moving from Labour First to a Progress General Secretary would be a positive change. It would be like exchanging Tom Watson for Peter Mandelson … and I’m pretty sure that that is exactly what it would be like.

  5. Friday has come, and nearly gone, Still no sign of Bex’s application. Has she changed her mind?
