French journalist Isabelle Saporta has been suspended by TV channel LCI for daring to challenge a former minister in anti-democratic president Emmanuel Macron’s government over the ‘Lycéens’ protests sweeping France.
“Ashes of shame”
Saporta was co-hosting the ‘Brunet Unfiltered’ programme when she told French ‘deputy’ (MP) Prisca Thevenot that Macron’s rule was “sink[ing]” France and putting it “on its knees” and that his supporters are deaf to the voice of the people. As Thevenot kept defending the government’s record and actions, the exasperated Saporta said she couldn’t understand how Thevenot dared keep speaking and that she (Saporta) would cover herself in ashes of shame if she were a Macron supporter:
The suspension is reminiscent of the cases of UK presenters sacked or threatened for challenging – albeit in a more English manner – Israeli spokesmen’s lies. It comes against a backdrop of the Macron regime’s attempts to provoke and then violently suppress the protest movement and to use the protests to criminalise left-wing politicians.
