UN General Assembly votes overwhelmingly to move from NYC to Geneva after US bans Palestine reps

154-2 vote against US-Israeli arrogance

The ‘Judging Freedom’ podcast on the vote.

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has voted overwhelmingly to move its September session from New York City to Geneva after the US government refused entry visas to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and dozens of other senior Palestinian officials – a rare show of defiance to the US regime and its relentless support for genocidal Israel. The US State Department had claimed it had denied the visas for “national security,” and that the Palestinian Authority was “undermining peace efforts” because it had dared to appeal to the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice at the Hague against Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

The US ban is a clear violation of the 1947 UN Headquarters Agreement, which requires the host country to provide access for all accredited delegations.

The vote carries echoes of the UN’s 1988 decision to move its session to Geneva when the US denied entry to then-Palestine Liberation Organisation head Yasser Arafat. The new move will help a segment dedicated to Palestinian rights, scheduled for 22 September, to proceed without interference and with the relevant representatives present. Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez described the US visa denial as “unjust”.

Only the US and Israel voted against the resolution. Britain abstained. The UK ‘mainstream’ media have largely ignored the vote.

  1. Love it, for the UN Headquarters to move permanently to China and Trump unable to do anything about it. So much for “Making America Great Again”
I hope that the General Council agrees to deploy international troops in Gaza and the West Bank to stop Israel from continuing its genocide in Gaza and stop the building of Israeli illegal settlement in the West Bank.

    1. Definitely, move the UN to China (or Geneva) permanently and send in their troops to sort the IDF out, which wouldn’t take long cos the IDF are such fucking cowards. And then let the war crimes trials begin…

    1. Not as much as the rest of us will enjoy the look on Starmer’s face and the faces of his slavering sycophantic shills and apologist when the UNGA votes to send in troops which may include troops from the Russian Federation to stop the Zionists Starmer is actively aiding and abetting.

There’ll be no RAF/RAF contractor flights from Akrotiri when that happens.

    1. Hardly a surprise. Starmer would need a major medical operation to insert a spine from a jellyfish for anything else to occur.

      1. Starmer and his cheerleaders will be running for cover when the UNGA vote to send Protective Force troops to stop what this and previous UK Governments have been actively aiding and abetting.

Because once the Global Majority has stopped this slaughter and stabilised the situation the next step will not only include rebuilding and the creation of a sovereign Palestine but also a war crimes tribunal for both the spear (Zionist Israel) and the spear wielders (the criminal degenerates currently running the Collective West, along with those carrying out their illegal orders under International Law) whose project this really is.

    2. That is appalling, but one with the general tenor of this government.
There must come a time of accountability when they must lower their gaze in shame.

  2. And yet the search engine throws up no links to this information…..

    – UNGA moving some meetings to Geneva;

    – UN potentially moving out of New York permanently;

    – and deploying a protective force to effectively remove the Israeli Zionist mass murderers from Gaza

…….appearing anywhere in the UK media.

It’s almost as though there’s a deliberate black-out or reporting restriction ban on the UK populace being given this news?

  3. This is great news & we need to get it out there & do the billionaire media’s job for them.
    154-2 with UK pathetically abstaining.
A permanent move of the UN to China would send a message to the Capitalist West that the world is sick of your imperialism & bombing Black & Brown people in poorer countries; murdering millions for Profits.
    The world is turning multi-polar
which many argue is a good thing and this would reflect this seismic change.
“Bye bye M/S American Capitalist pie.”
And potential hope for peace in Gaza.
And Time for China et al to stand up there.
    Time to make history.

  4. There makes no difference moving to Geneva if there is still a Veto vote. The actions should go by Majority vote, if not then it is a waste of time & lives. Those in support of the War should be Banned from the UN, the US & Israels. There must be a decision to move all zionists from Palestine to their grandparents Country of birth, the Armed Forces & Ministers must go to the Hague for sentencing. Aggression of foreign bases in Countries should be closed down, no encroachment on other Countries borders.

  6. AW, As someone said if this meeting agrees an international peace keeping
force in Gaza the UN Security Council cannot veto it.
Wonder if the US, UK & Israel will have the
gall & absolute hypocrisy to send their UN reps to Geneva?
They shouldn’t be let in and by default they have barred themselves.
And what kind of political imbeciles abstain?
It’s a simple yes of no.
This could be a game changer though Palestinians need to be wary of sell outs presented as progress.
As the illegal Israeli occupation force economy has been hit by half a trillion in the last 23 months perhaps as Palestinian
intellectual Olymar argues their best hope is “A new Palestinian grassroots approach.”
Do the right thing in Geneva UNGC!
