Israel’s use of incendiaries – an unequivocal war crime – expands
The Israeli military has begun using ‘fire belts’ – long areas of fire started by incendiary weapons across an area – in its expanded invasion of Gaza, according to local journalists.
The tactic is designed to divide areas, kill and break up civilian populations and facilitate the extermination or ethnic cleansing of people in the targeted areas. An image captured locally shows how this looks on the ground:
The use of fire, and of incendiary weapons to create it in civilian areas, is an unequivocal war crime under the Geneva Conventions – created after the RAF created the notorious Dresden ‘firestorm’ during WWII that killed at least 25,000 German civilians – which state that:
Article 2 – Protection of civilians and civilian objects
1. It is prohibited in all circumstances to make the civilian population as such, individual civilians or civilian objects the object of attack by incendiary weapons.
2. It is prohibited in all circumstances to make any military objective located within a concentration of civilians the object of attack by air-delivered incendiary weapons.
3. It is further prohibited to make any military objective located within a concentration of civilians the object of attack by means of incendiary weapons other than air-delivered incendiary weapons, except when such military objective is clearly separated from the concentration of civilians and all feasible precautions are taken with a view to limiting the incendiary effects to the military objective and to avoiding, and in any event to minimizing, incidental loss of civilian life, injury to civilians and damage to civilian objects.
Israel has repeatedly used incendiary weapons on civilians in Gaza, most notably on concentrations of tents, resulting in some of the most horrific images of a sea of horror the coloniser has inflicted on its victims. Now, in yet another show of flagrant contempt for international law, it is expanding that use to a scale comparable with the British-inflicted horror that led to the anti-incendiary laws in the first place.
Colluding and silent when it matters as always, Keir Starmer, David Lammy and other key government figures have remained silent about this blatant criminality while the Starmer regime continues to wage war on anti-genocide protest and to provide military aid to the genocidal regime.

Toffee, among others on this forum, are not articulating what they think – i.e their subjective opinions – but are instead presenting objective evidenced based arguments grounded in and congruent with reality.
Mis-framing that as “opinion” is very clearly a defence mechanism to produce little more than an echo of the Catherine Tate catchphrase line “Am I bovvered.”
And all this achieves is a loud public declaration that you are detached from reality and need to redefine any argument contrary to your own constructed fantasy reality as mere opinion in order to shield your fragile ego from the real world.
Now if someone wishes to detach themselves from the reality based community in this way, that is their business. But only up to a point.
