French MEP and Freedom Flotilla crew member ‘summonsed’ by police for supporting Palestine

French state attempts to criminalise Emma Fourreau, recently freed from Israel after it attacked the humanitarian vessel Handala

Left-wing French-Swedish MEP Emma Fourreau, who represents La France Insoumise (LFI – not the genocide-supporting one!), has been summonsed by French police in an apparent attempt to criminalise her support for Palestinian causes. The French state has taken exception to Fourreau’s social media comments on the conditional release last month of Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, a Lebanese political prisoner who had been held in France for almost four decades – a political imprisonment long condemned by human rights advocates. She wrote:

After 41 years in prison, Georges Ibrahim Abdallah will be released on July 25. He was the oldest political prisoner, and France should be ashamed of having imprisoned him for so long. Long live his struggle, long live Palestine!

Fourreau was recently freed from Israel after the occupation military stormed and seized the Freedom Flotilla humanitarian vessel Handala as its volunteer crew tried to deliver vital baby food and medicines to Gaza.

Abdallah’s arrest and imprisonment took place in a period when France, along with the UK and other European governments, was colluding in an ‘assassination spree’ by Israeli intelligence services, inclulding in Paris.
