Cardinal and close colleague of Pope slams “unbridled evil” of Israel’s genocide as “beyond madness”

Paolo Lojudice compares Israel’s “slaughter of innocents” in Gaza to the nazis and adds Netanyahu is “tyrant pursuing a dark and bloody plan for power”

After Pope Leo XIV condemned Israel’s “barbarity” in Gaza on Sunday, one of his closest associates in the top echelons of the Roman Catholic Church has gone much further

Cardinal Paolo Lojudice – also a judge on the church’s Supreme Court and so close to Pope Leo that his words have been taken as Leo saying what he can’t quite say publicly and officially – has laid into Israel’s wanton war crimes in Gaza and into Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu personally, in a blunt and damning assessment that has set Israeli officials and their mouthpieces frothing.

Lojudice told Italian daily La Stampa that Netanyahu is a bloody “tyrant” behind “the most unbridled and illogical evil” whose murder of countless Palestinian children “cries out for justice to God” – and went on to say that the Israelis are committing the same crimes that the nazis perpetrated on them:

Some have been shocked to read the word genocide used by Francis in a book, but in Gaza we are beyond madness; the most unbridled and illogical evil is at work. The killing of children queuing for a handful of rice cries out for justice to God.

The boulder has now rolled away and any geopolitical justification has been eliminated. Faced with the current escalation of atrocities, no one is saying anymore that it is right for Israel to defend itself. I read in La Stampa the harrowing diary of a mother in the Strip; a vivid description of the ongoing massacre. The slaughter of innocents cries out to heaven for vengeance. We can no longer hold back from denouncing it.

[Netanyahu] won’t stop because he’s a tyrant pursuing a dark and bloody plan for power. Apart from Donald Trump, who only cares about selling weapons, no one accepts his self-legitimization anymore. The other evening at the Cistercian Abbey of San Galgano, Caritas organized a benefit concert. At the end, a woman from the Jewish community came to speak to me, almost in tears, in an apologetic tone. I hugged her and told her that religious affiliation had nothing to do with it. How can someone who commits such atrocities and has tens of thousands of victims on his conscience look at himself in the mirror? There’s nothing reasonable about a massacre; it’s evil taking hold and wiping out any sense of humanity.

We are far beyond [an eye for an eye]. No violence can exploit the name of God. In Jerusalem, I heard fundamentalist fringes using the Scriptures as a shield to trample on human rights. In reality, there is no longer any way to attempt an explanation. Does the fundamentalist reading of the Bible call for the total destruction of the enemy? A mystification because it speaks of destroying evil, not exterminating children. When you distort the Old Testament, you make it say what you want. Not all Jews do this. In Israel, fundamentalist sectors are now in control, combining fundamentalism with far-right policies in a mad pursuit of absolute power. The right of might humiliates the force of right. Because of foolish choices, they commit the same atrocities perpetrated against them. If the tyrant isn’t stopped, there’s no escape. Life has lost all value compared to the economic gains of the industry of death and wealth used for oppression

…There is no need to question the causes of criminal actions like those in the Strip. The unfolding of blind and cruel violence will reverberate through generations for decades, sowing discord.

The UK state is prosecuting Jewish anti-genocide activist Yael Kahn for comparing Israel to the nazis. It would be interesting to see whether it would pursue Cardinal Lojudice if he ever came to the UK.

  1. He’s 100% right. To ALL Israelis: This will blight people’s views on you for at least the next century. So a bit of advice …. whatever you do, DON’T play the victim card, Israel isn’t a victim it’s a perpetrator of abhorrent evil.

  2. The Cardinal has nailed it. He has said what others should’ve said ages ago but they couldn’t or wouldn’t. Starmer, take note.

  3. Oh and here Farage should resign as an MP.
Some suggest the political creep stirs
up racial tension eg at the Epping Hotel because it’s his meal ticket?
Does this opportunist think about how terrified the migrants in that hotel must feel?
83% of the UK is white so obviously most
sex crimes & assaults are by white men.
Just trawled media for last few weeks and overwhelming number of banged up men for a this were white but not a peep from the white mob?
But one rumour and the white lumpen are out in droves.
All attacks on women by ALL diverse men are wrong and we need to address it but calmly & rationally but you get the feeling that some are being played by the Far Right.

    1. And apparently when the White mob turned ugly, probably fired up by Far Right agitators (some possibly fuelled by alcohol?) the police felt the small minority of decent human being counter protesters, who had come to show solidarity with the threatened refugees, were at serious risk of attack so at the end helped move them away which was sensible.
I have been critical of some of the police who as Justice Chamberlain said “Are misinterpreting the law’ on protest at Palestine demos but in this case they should be praised.
The Chief Constable in the area covered by the Epping Forest hotel should not resign but Farage should as an MP!
What is worrying is that some people are so gullible and don’t recognise they are being played by the Right and particularly by the Far Right who utilise emotive issues
      for their own warped ends.
And any other ‘celebrity’ Far Right Leaders turning up to stir racial tensions (which some claim is their meal ticket?) should be banned (which is probably part of their release conditions) as their appearance “Is not conducive to public order” as perhaps they attempt to jump on the bandwagon!
Sexual crime against women & girls is a serious issue which all of our wonderfully diverse society needs to address but it does nothing to help all women by one group focussing on another group driven by their hatred for that group?
Time for calm, rational and critical thinking to address this serious issue.

  4. Starmer’s probably instructing Cooper to get the Church designated a terrorist organisation under The Terrorism Act 2000. Too much ‘Peace and Justice’: Nonviolence, dialogue and the rejection of war and bloodshed.

Paolo Lojudice couldn’t put it any clearer:

    * Israel’s “massacre of the innocents cries out for vengeance to heaven.”
    * Israel’s current escalation of atrocities and murder make its claim to be defending itself “impossible to believe.”
    * “Nessuna violenza può strumentalizzare il nome di Dio.” – “No self-serving violence can claim to serve/be in the name of God”
    * “The war is increasingly senseless and totally devoid of any human or moral justification.”

In essence, Cardinal Lojudice is just confirming Catholic social teaching and repeating the current and late Pope’s calls for
    – nonviolence,
    — dialogue, and
    — the rejection of religious justification for war and bloodshed.

It’s Pure Corbyn, anathema to Starmer.

  5. The Cardinal and the Pope are certainly accurate in these observations.

However, they are not wholly accurate. As Stephen Bowen’s book…….

    https://www.barakabooks.com/catalogue/israel-beachhad-in-the-middle-east/

……’Israel: A Beachhead” argues Netenyahu and the Zionists – not all of whom are from the Jewish Community – are effectively the tip of the spear on behalf of actors in the West who, without their active support and sponsorship, would be unable to carry out the approach being taken which is producing these hourly atrocities with impunity.

“One US military leader has called Israel “the intelligence equivalent of five CIAs.” An Israeli cabinet minister likens his country to “the equivalent of a dozen US aircraft carriers,” while the Jerusalem Post defines Israel as the executive of a “superior Western military force that” protects “America’s interests in the region.” Arab leaders have called Israel “a club the United States uses against the Arabs,” and “a poisoned dagger implanted in the heart of the Arab nation.”

Israel’s first leaders proclaimed their new state in 1948 under a portrait of Theodore Herzl, who had defined the future Jewish state as “a settler colony for European Jews in the Middle East under the military umbrella of one of the Great Powers.” The first Great Power to sponsor Herzl’s dream was Great Britain in 1917 when foreign secretary Sir Arthur Balfour promised British support for a Jewish homeland in Palestine……

……Viewing Israel as a potentially valuable asset in suppressing liberation movements, Washington poured billions into Israel’s economy and military. Since 1967, Israel has undertaken innumerable operations on Washington’s behalf, against states that reject US supremacy and economic domination. The self-appointed Jewish state has become what Zionists from Herzl to an editor of Haaretz, the liberal Israeli newspaper, have defined as a watch-dog capable of sufficiently punishing neighbouring countries discourteous towards the West.”

Like Ukraine, Taiwan, the Philippines and other proxies, the artificial construct of Israel was and is deliberately designed and propped up to serve and carry out the minority interests of a minority psychopathy in the Collective West. Which is to dominate and control the rest of the planet.

Netenyahu, like Zelensky and other useful idiot assets before them – such as Assad, Gadaffi, Hussain, Bin Laden, and Ngo Dinh Diem – are expendable and are useful scapegoats to draw attention away from their sponsors when convenience requires.

Let’s not run away with any notion that solving this issue and other related issues will occur simply by removing Netenyahu. Quite apart from his pending court case he is seriously ill and has, like his counterpart in 404, a limited shelf life. He will be replaced by those holding the spear from behind the curtain who are the primary, rather than secondary actors (like Netenyahu, Zelensky and Duarte), whilst everyone breathes a premature sigh of relief thinking that the absence of the scapegoat of the moment has resolved the issue.

  6. Dave – Yes bang on the nail as Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum Republican and Democrat Big Business Presidents act as stewards ready and willing at the call to act for the rich & powerful and their tool capitalism as Lightweight Western Leaders desperately cling to their coat tails hoping for a share of the profits.
But the world is turning with the development of BRICs and China’s Belt and Braces Project and other deals in the Global South plus the cause of the Palestinians has woken up some countries and the oppressed of the world and the West’s hegemony has hopefully begun to crack.
And WE have all seen them for what they are; all they care about is PROFIT and perhaps as Melechon argued by the time it’s all over in Gaza it could be 500,000 Palestinians slaughtered by Israel aided & abetted by the West.
Time to end Western capitalist global domination and for a more multi-polar world that is built on developing peace & co-operation between ALL countries.

  7. I share Paolo Lojudice’s views. He is 100% correct. Nutterjahoo’s attitude, behavior and actions are unacceptable and utterly atrocious and repugnant!!!

  8. ANY and EVERY “Friend of Israel” would be open, honest and truthful to its face about the “impression” it is giving the world of being a totally rogue state acting worse than any other this century, and it isn’t going to end well. They SHOULD be making it crystal clear, not using weasel words about “being one of our allies” … in what way is Israel an ally of the UK or even the USA?

And remember folks, you are judged by the company you keep, especially if you’ve invited them over, shook their blood-stained hand, and offered them so much as a free cuppa, never mind a complete armoury.
