AOC votes against cutting Israeli missile funding

‘Squad’ member’s gives feeble excuse for voting for $500m more for occupation

US Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has voted against an amendment to cut US$500 million in military aid for Israel.

The amendment was proposed by Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene who, despite her Trumpist far-right politics has lately taken an ‘America first’ stance against continuing to fund Israel’s occupation and genocide, and would have cut the support from US funding for Israel’s ‘Iron Dome’ and other ‘defence’ systems.

Greene had argued that the US should not be pouring billions into Israeli coffers when it faces a $37tn national debt. Only five other members voted to support the amendment: Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich), Thomas Massie (R-KY), Al Green (D-TX) and Summer Lee (D-PA).

Ocasio-Cortez claimed that she voted against the amendment to protect Israeli civilians, a feeble excuse when Israel’s air defence systems allow it greater impunity from retaliation to its attacks on other countries, particularly from Gaza – the weaknesses of its defences against modern missiles was amply demonstrated during the recent retaliatory strikes by Iran.

In 2021, ‘she ‘AOC’ cast a “PRESENT” vote abstaining on a vote on $1 billion extra military funding for Israel’s Iron Dome, claiming that this was because of the abuse she had been forced into it by ‘hateful targeting’ in the debate. Her 2025 vote has seen critics asking whether she would have voted to provide ‘flak’ funding for nazi Germany, pointing out that such funding would have shored up Germany’s Holocaust just as the current funding is shoring up Israel’s genocide and warmongering.
