“We know the tank is us and…we’re the ones defending ourselves”
A dystopian – and mandatory – Israeli training video for high school students about to travel abroad has exposed the sick mindset of supporters of Zionism – and the extent to which it will exploit even its young people for the purposes of ‘hasbara’, pro-Israel propaganda.
The 2016 training video, re-discovered and posted by X user ‘BM‘, an Israeli ‘currently in exile’, features Israeli ‘PR expert’ and Ministry of Foreign Affairs diplomat Ilana Stein, who:
• admits that the world’s negative view of Israel is true
• claims that Israel is the victim even of a small child throwing a stone at a tank – because “we’re the Israel defence forces” and “that child throwing a stone is actually attacking us“
• Israel’s problem in that scenario is that the world doesn’t see it right and we foolishly think the people using tanks on civilians are the aggressor
• tells the high-schoolers that what they need to do is distract the world with “the stuff we’re good at” – “creative energy”, like being good at business or fashion, or that Israel “invented the cherry tomato”; to “fill the picture of Israel with all kinds of [other] images
• tells the kids to ‘date’ for Israel – pimping out their young people’s love life for the sake of propaganda: “I want you to do it too. You won’t always enjoy it, I’m warning you”
• tells them when they go on dates not just to talk about themselves
• to find out about other people so the common interest can obscure Israel’s occupation and apartheid and promote positive feelings instead
The presenter also mentions – though she advises avoiding the topic or a date might run for the hills – ‘having to slap’ someone who annoyed her – Israeli colonial victimhood in PG form.
It would be interesting to see the 2025 version of this, now that Israel’s expensively-maintained image has collapsed after twenty-one months of genocidally slaughtering around 400,000 Palestinian civilians in Gaza, especially children, doctors, journalists, rescue workers and people seeking food after months of a criminal starvation blockade.

According to the eternal victims, the latest missile strike – on kids getting water – was due to a technical error. And that they were targeting an islamic jihadi, who apparently was dozens of metres away. Obviously where there’d be no collateral…

I mean, there was me worrying they might blame Palestine Action for demonstrating outside one of the factories that supply the guidance systems, making chalk drawings on the pavement, which spooked a worker into accidentally putting a rejected/faulty chip inside the mossile that went awry.

Well, the “How to broach the topic of Israel’s PR,” was bit sick IMHO. I was almost expecting a “Don’t sell your virginity to any foreigner without exacting an oath of allegiance to the Israeli state and a firm promise written in blood to volunteer for the IDF.”
But politicians would be the perfect “capture.” And there was I thinking these Russian twenty-something women were after my near-80 year old body for its sex appeal. Maybe this is what life is like over the water?

Israel has warned Gazans to stay out of the Mediterranean Sea or risk getting killed under wartime restrictions that critics say serve no security purpose and are meant to deprive Palestinians of a key source of sustenance—and respite from the horrific realities of 21 months of constant death and destruction.
“Strict security restrictions have been imposed in the maritime area adjacent to Gaza—entry to the sea is prohibited,” Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Arabic language spokesperson Avichay Adraee wrote on the social media site X Saturday. “This is a call to fishermen, swimmers, and divers—refrain from entering the sea. Entering the beach and waters along the entire Gaza Strip endangers your lives.”
It is unclear why the IDF issued Saturday’s warning, which came amid excessive heat warnings as temperatures rose to over 30°C (86°F). With Gaza’s infrastructure obliterated by 21 months of Israeli onslaught and safe running water in severe shortage, the Mediterranean Sea provided a place to cool off and clean up.
“I used to go every day. The sea was where I bathed, where I relaxed, where I ran from the horror of war,” Ibrahim Dawla, a 26-year-old Palestinian man forcibly displaced from Gaza City’s Zaytun, told The National. “Now even that’s gone.”
