Coventry South MP Zara Sultana has announced her resignation from the Labour party, from which she has long been suspended for refusing to vote for Starmer’s continuation of the two-child benefit cap that has pushed millions of children into poverty – to launch a new party with former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and other independent MPs:
Sultana’s comment only mentions other independent MPs, not specifically any other suspended Labour MPs who are now independent because the whip has been withdrawn, mostly for the same reason as Sultana, so it is currently unclear whether any of those MPs will join the new party or only those who were elected as independents last year.
Sultana’s dissection of Labour’s failure to do anything to tackle the UK’s gross inequality or the poverty and other massive issues that Keir Starmer has refused to even try to improve, will be a blow to Starmer’s already bottom-scraping ratings with an electorate desperate for real change.
However, there are reports – largely from anti-Corbyn sources – that Corbyn had not yet agreed the launch timing, which is catastrophic if so:
Even if the reports are false and the claims are just an attempt to derail the new venture, whether the new party will work together effectively with the Greens and other new parties to form the electoral threat to billionaire interests that it should, or will have the mass support it would certainly have had if it had been founded as soon as Corbyn was wrongfully suspended from Labour by Starmer, is still to be seen.

Jeremy & Zara would be a Left Wing Democratic Socialist Dream Team.
I would join it at the drop of a hat, as I believe many experienced campaigners would as would many passionate young people.
And unlike the politically lightweight main Neo-Liberal parties we all have the political courage & political acumen to fight for the oppressed here & internationally plus particularly for Palestine now!
One initial poll last week said such a new party under JC would get 10% straight away (60 MPs) but that’s before we even begin trying to politicise & win the masses.
I would hope hundreds of thousands of us would join & give this party millions in the bank to campaign with.
And as the first in my w class family to go to Uni I would argue we already have a
stimulus – response document with JC’s 2017 manifesto which in stage one should be debated by its members to be updated,
amended & added to, to produce a draft version.
But stage 2 as well as JC & ZS going direct to the public, so do we by getting the draft updated manifesto out on council estates, diverse w class areas etc & we hold public conferences where citizens can bring their ideas & we thrash these out.
Stage 3 we put the final version out in the General Election & we campaign on it.
So we attempt to transform society WITH citizens & not FOR.

I just can’t see Zarah saying what she said if it was untrue. Anyway, I just did a search, and it looks like the whole of the MSM have covered it. And there was a Times article in the list of results that came up (which is behind a paywall, and all that can be seen is the headline), but in the listing it says ‘Speaking on ITV’s Peston programme on Wednesday, Corbyn said a new party would focus on poverty, inequality and foreign policy “based on peace”’, which surely implies that it’s all systems go.
I welcome the creation of a new political party co-lead by Jeremy and Zarah. I would very much welcome too a “double act” with the Greens, a party that I joined when I gave up my Labour Party’s membership in 2020.
We cannot afford to split the vote so something like Labour and the Co-op Party will be the best way of ensuring that we prevail against the Conservative, Labour and Reform Parties.
On Wednesday the Greens were the only political party to vote against the proscription of Palestine Action.
The four Green MPs have voted consistently in the same manner as Zarah and Jeremy: in favour of lifting the 2 children cap for benefit claimants, against the welfare reform that targets disabled people and against cuts on the winter fuel allowance.
Thus, “a double act” between Greens and the new party, would allow many people like me that joined the Green Party in disgust after Starmer took over as a leader of the Labour Party to keep our present membership in the Green Party, while at the same time joining the new Party co-lead by Jeremy and Zarah.
People like Jo Bird are members of the Green Party and I believe Zack Polanski is going to win the leadership. Thus, very important to keep us united, as a fighting front.
Just Sultana at the minute…Its a start, I guess. But I’m not expecting (m)any more.
Given how worse-than-shite and authoritarian the smarmerist party is, as well as how lily-livered the supposed left within the party are, I’ll give it until Christmas before making my mind up.
The week of and following the autumn budget should be the marker, I reckon.

A sensible and prudent approach.
Any emergent party/movement of the political left with the objective of attempting to successfully revive the demos – in the context of a discredited political-economic Westminster system which has for centuries operated for the benefit of the parasitic rentier landlord and now international financier class – has to proceed on the basis of a collective class politics rather than the right-wing post-modernist infection which segments and divides people into smaller and smaller sovereign individualist interest groups operating the manufactured hierarchy of oppression scam which has transformed the ‘woke’ into a dangerous divisive force hostile to the values, aims and objectives of the political left.
Previous experience clearly indicates that there most certainly will be concerted attempts by actors seeking to maintain the status quo to infiltrate and undermine such a party/movement from the inside. Not only by the usual suspects but also by the self-identifying faux/fake-left.
Avoiding such pitfalls will most likely determine whether the UK and the Collective West as a functioning society/societies can survive the inevitable systemic collapse of five centuries of hegemonic empire which is taking place in front of our eyes.
