‘Arise’ is a local initiative only – national group discussions still ongoing

The new ‘Arise’ political party registered yesterday by a director of Jeremy Corbyn’s Peace and Justice Project (PJP) is not the new party that Corbyn’s supporters have been waiting five years for, but a local initiative for left-wingers in the north London borough of Harrow. The registration of the new party was registered just after Corbyn indicated on Saturday, during a speech in Liverpool, that a new left-wing party was close.
It appears that discussions on a new national party are still ongoing – positive and with buy-in from some well-known left figures, but still some distance off. The long wait continues.

The important thing is that Arise is now registered in England (not Scotland or Wales) so what’s to stop us Left Wing Democratic Socialists who support JC’s ideas from setting up informal ‘Arise Discussion Groups’ or ‘Arise Supporters Groups’ in towns & cities throughout England to take the initiative so it comes from the grassroots?
I’m up for it in my area!
Solidarity.
PRECISELY Bazza. A ‘new’ democratic socialist party has to start at the grassroots level and that is exactly what the registration of “Arise” with the UK electoral commission to fight local elections, enables.
It rightly, imho, excludes itself from seeking ‘authorisation’ to fight parliamentary elections until it becomes a recognised ‘brand’ with strong, community level support. It’s enemies (i.e. UK Labour and the corporate MSM) would kill the ‘arse’ party in a second had it gone whole-hog on day 1. (They’ll still try, but are less likely to succeed when Arise is a coalition of lots of community-based ‘independents’ simply sharing an identity).
Clever tactics and strategy by Arise and Corbyn.
Didn’t they already have ‘brand’ recognition with JC and the Peace and Justice Project. Why not capitalise on this by registering the Peace and Justice Party.
Perhaps they are trying to be a little bit too clever. Arise reminds me of the religious pamphlets that we used to get stuffed through our letterbox. It will be interesting to see where you are in 4 years time.
” It will be interesting to see where you are in 4 years time”
Next May – after the council elections – should answer that, SteveH. Four years from now Arise and the Greens and (sadly) Reform will be costing Labour parliamentary seats BIG TIME.
qwerty – ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
How did the left’s ‘independent’ candidates do in May’s elections?
Time will tell 🤔
How did Independents do in May ’24? Better than before and not as well as they’ll do under the Arise banner…
qwerty – That’s interesting, do you have any evidence to support your assertions
Oh Skwawky!
Just been confirmed by P&JP
that it is a group in Harrow that registered Arise so some us were perhaps letting our hearts & heads run away with us.
But is still great news- there will be a new party, it will be launched soon,
& candidates will be selected for the May 26 local elections.
So we could be in for an exciting journey & I’m In!
And I encourage all those who are on the side of the oppressed to join it or at least support it.
All I know is there is going to be a new JC party, it will be launched soon, candidates will be selected & will be in place by the May 2026 local elections.
I’m in & with other diverse working class & progressive middle class left wing Democratic Socialist fighters we’ll just get on with it.
Could be in for exciting times again.
Already have ideas for a council manifesto & perhaps activists could start campaigning as soon as possible + have a manifesto working group to come up with a draft for members to discuss.
And pick candidates as soon as & in leaflets before local election period have them as our ‘Community Campaigner.’
Their job would be to trailblaze & plant seeds.
New JC party bring it on!
