As Skwawkbox reported last month, Israel lobby groups were making a concerted push to try to prevent the re-accreditation of Francesca Albanese as United Nations Special Rapporteur for human rights in occupied Palestine when her three-year term concluded this week.
Albanese has been applauded by opponents of genocide – and continually smeared and attacked by pro-Israel (and therefore friends of genocide) groups – for her forthright and outspoken opposition to Israel’s genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity against the Palestinian people of Gaza, so much so that she faced death-threats from a pro-Israel fascist group during her visit to the UK last month.
The Israel lobby had been trying to pressure cowardly governments on the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) into voting against Albanese’s re-confirmation for a second – and under UN rules final – three-year term, but Albanese has now formally been re-accredited for a further term, to squeals of outrage from pro-genocide propagandists.
Israel continues to slaughter and starve innocent civilians in Gaza, with women and children the vast majority of victims of its bombing and shooting, despite which the UK, US and other western governments continue to support the occupation regime and assist its genocide.

Israel deported two Labour MPs, because “they were suspected of wanting to tell the truth” … erm they mean “spread anti-Israel propaganda.” Can’t have anyone tell the truth about the apartheid state can we?
The re-accredited Special Rapporteur for Palestine makes it clear. It’s exactly what Mandela said: we cannot be truly free until every single surviving Palestinian is – and this won’t happen if our democratically elected governments don’t even try to challenge the Occupation Regime’s oppression and genocide.
Thank Heavens Albanese has been re-accredited a second term and that she will continue to disclose the genocide Israel is undertaking.

Perhaps the most attacked official at the United Nations, Francesca Albanese has become one of the staunchest defenders of human rights inside occupied Palestine. Despite the countless accusations leveled at her, entry bans to a number of countries, and even death threats, she has prevailed with a mandate to continue her position at the UN.
