Sinister hilarity as pro-Israel ‘mafia’ tries to get Hickey arrested when he comes ‘home’ to UK – he’s Irish

Israel lobby ‘mafia’ rabid for anti-genocide comedian’s arrest under laws he’s not subject to because (drum roll) Ireland isn’t part of the UK

Comedian Tadhg Hickey is well known for his humorous but hard-hitting portrayals of the injustices perpetrated on the Palestinians by Israel – and of the collusion of other countries, particularly the US and UK, in Israel’s genocide in Gaza and the West Bank.

And he found more material after his visit last week to Beirut, where Hickey covered for his YouTube channel but not for comedy, the funeral of Hasan Nasrallah, the assassinated leader of Hezbollah, which is a ‘proscribed’ or banned group in the UK – and criticised Israel for flying fighter jets over sovereign Lebanese territory in an attempt to disrupt the funeral.

The UK government is currently engaged in a sinister, authoritarian ‘lawfare’ war against anti-genocide activists and journalists in the UK in which it is, among other forms of legal abuse, misusing anti-terrorism legislation to accuse supporters of Palestinian freedom, such as Natalie Strecker and Tony Greenstein, of support for proscribed organisations, which carries a penalty of up to fourteen years – a campaign that has seen Starmer slammed by UN human rights experts.

Clearly the pro-Israel groups who are outraged by Hickey’s vocal opposition to Israel’s genocide thought they had a ‘gotcha moment’, because they made a slew of reports to British intelligence and anti-terror police urging them to arrest and charge Hickey as soon as he came ‘home’ to the UK, on the basis that by covering the funeral he was promoting support for a proscribed group.

But of course Hickey isn’t British, doesn’t live in Britain and isn’t subject to British law. He’s Irish and lives in Ireland, a sovereign country with its own laws that won independence for most of its island ‘around a hundred years ago’, as Hickey pointed out – and has enough airports that Hickey had no need to go through the UK:

“Very amusing watching right-wing Brits reporting me to British intelligence because of my attendance at a Hezbollah funeral, urging them to arrest me at the airport when I get home; seemingly unaware that the south of Ireland won independence from Britain about a hundred years ago, and we’ve loads of our own airports”

Tadhg Hickey

It’s only been a century and the Israel lobbyists still think they’re living in an age in which colonialism and genocide are just business as usual for European powers, but maybe they’ll catch on eventually. In the meantime, tragically, the UK continues to aid and abet war crimes and crimes against humanity in a clear display of anti-Palestinian racism.
