Released Palestinian hostages have accused the Israeli occupation regime of horrific treatment of prisoners inside Israeli prisons, particularly the Ofer ‘torture camp’.
In the video below, a released detainee describes how he and fellow prisoners suffered from scabies, boils and chronic illness for six months after being, he says, deliberately infected.
The former hostage also says that captives were so severely deprived of food and medicine that many were unable to walk, forced to crawl to roll calls and that their obvious incapacity was ignored by Israeli officers who wished them dead. He describes Ofer as the ‘cemetery of prisons’, where detainees had their legs and fingers amputated and were forced into signing away their legal rights in exchange for any hope of release:
