Around 400 US rabbis, academics, showbiz stars take out ad to say ‘NO’ to Trump’s Gaza ethnic cleansing plan

On Thursday 13 February, leading Jewish figures from academia and showbusiness, including playwright Tony Kushner, comedian Ilana Glazer, Oscar-winner Joaquin Phoenix, political commentator Peter Beinart, author and film-maker Naomi Klein and actor and playwright Wally Shawn joined 350 rabbis, including many ‘Rabbis for Ceasefire’, in taking out a full-page ad in the New York Times to demand a stop to US president Donald Trump’s plan to remove around 1.9 million Palestinians from Gaza to turn their land into a US/Israel-run ‘beach resort’.

The ad makes an unequivocal statement against Trump’s criminal plan, delivering a clear and urgent message:

Trump has now called for the removal of all Palestinians from Gaza.

Jewish People Say No to Ethnic Cleansing!”

Leading US Jews in their NYT ad.

In a statement, the ‘Rabbis 4 Ceasefire’ group said:

This is a critical moment in history. As Trump and Netanyahu push forward with plans for the forced removal of Palestinians from Gaza, Jewish voices must be clear and unwavering: We say no to ethnic cleansing. The full-page ad in The New York Times is only the beginning. We urge all who stand for justice to:

—Share this message widely and amplify the voices of those taking a stand. Post a picture of the ads with the message that it speaks for you!

—Donate to organizations directly supporting Palestinians’ ability to remain in their homeland and rebuild their lives.

—Contact elected officials and demand they oppose U.S. support for ethnic cleansing.

Together, we can ensure this moment is defined by moral clarity and unwavering resistance to the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.

  1. Comedian Ilana Glazer? Can’t say I’ve heard of her. I HAVE, however, heard of British film director Jonathan Glazer (also listed in the NYT ad but not featured by Skwawkie in this post), whose Oscar-winning film The Zone of Interest is probably the best holocaust-related (feature, not documentary) film ever made.
