More questions raised about Siddiq after ‘opulent’ ‘Tulip’s territory’ revelations

Tulip Siddiq resigned as anti-corruption minister this month to avoid ‘distraction’, but ties to luxury properties are under investigation by Anti-Corruption Commission, Bangladeshi media report

Hampstead and Highgate MP Tulip Siddiq resigned as Keir Starmer’s ‘anti-corruption minister’ earlier this month after she was named in a Bangladeshi anti-corruption investigation into the alleged embezzlement of up to £3.9 billion from infrastructure projects in the country by her family – toppled Bangladeshi PM Sheikh Hasina is her maternal aunt.

Siddiq was accused of involvement in a huge deal with Russia for a nuclear power plant in Bangladesh from which the huge sum was embezzled, of ‘pressuring her aunt’s regime to allocate land to her family members’ – and of using plush apartments in London provided by associated of her mother’s family. She has denied any wrongdoing or any involvement in the alleged fraud and a brief parliamentary standards investigation found no wrongdoing, but Siddiq said she was resigning because the issue was a ‘distraction’ for the government, despite Starmer giving her the often-dreaded statement of confidence.

But now new details have emerged in Bangladeshi media that raise further questions, particularly in connection to the acquisition of huge ‘opulent’ holiday properties in Bangladesh, with one even named “Tulip’s Territory”. According to Bangla Outlook:

These properties, acquired over the years, were intended as private retreats for leisure and relaxation. However, following the fall of the government, several of these vacation homes became the targets of angry mobs.

The discoveries come amid growing controversy surrounding Sheikh Rehana’s family, especially her daughter, Tulip Siddiq, who has faced allegations of unethical conduct in the United Kingdom.

The recent resignation of Tulip has only fueled public suspicion. In response, Bangladesh’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an investigation into the family’s extensive wealth.

Early findings suggest substantial assets, far beyond what had been previously known.

One of the most notable properties is located in Kanaiya, within the Gazipur Metropolitan area, about 15 kilometers from Joydebpur.

The area, characterized by a mix of paved and dirt roads lined with rows of trees, offers a tranquil and lush environment.

Here, a grand vacation home was built in the name of Tulip Siddiq.

Spanning nearly 35 bighas (about 11 acres), this property—aptly named “Tulip’s Territory”—is a luxurious estate featuring a sprawling bungalow, a pond, and an array of flowering and fruit-bearing trees.

But Tulip’s Territory is only the tip of the iceberg. Investigations have uncovered that Sheikh Rehana’s family possesses other high-value assets in the Gazipur region, with a total estimated worth exceeding 150 crore taka (around $15 million).

These properties, designed with opulence in mind and surrounded by verdant greenery, appear to have been built for the exclusive use of the family.

‘Sources close to the estate’ told Bangladeshi daily Manab Zameen that no family members have visited Tulip’s Territory since the fall of Siddiq’s aunt Sheikh Hasina, but that Siddiq’s father remains ‘in charge of the property’s management’ including the payment of security staff.

Other Siddiq-linked Bangladeshi properties.

And according to the Bangladeshi Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), several other properties under investigation are also linked to Tulip Siddiq and her family, worth some £17m. The ACC has said that it is on site at all the properties as part of its investigation.

In 2018, Siddiq was revealed to be named on the list of supporters of the right-wing ‘Labour Friends of Israel’ that was sabotaging Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership of the Labour party, but claimed that her name had been added without her consent.

New Bangladeshi leader Muhammad Yunus has said that London properties used by Ms Siddiq should be investigated and handed back to his government if they were acquired through “plain robbery”. He added:

She becomes the minister for anti-corruption and defends herself. Maybe you didn’t realise it, but now you realise it.

You say: ‘Sorry, I didn’t know it (at) that time, I seek forgiveness from the people that I did this and I resign.’ She’s not saying that. She’s defending herself.

  1. Acting dishonestly ✅, seeking personal gain ✅, being morally depraved ✅: No-wonder mainstream politics is hardly bothering about a Rogue state killing hundreds of thousands of Occupied people.

Starmer’s not schtum about Israel’s genocide for nothing. We just haven’t sussed his full reason(s) yet.

He repulses and repels me more than I thought anyone could. Farage and Badenoch are as good as in No. 10 already.

    1. qwertboi – “Farage and Badenoch are as good as in No. 10 already.”

Will you be voting for them in the next general election?

      1. I will not be voting Labour. Badenoch and Farage are nearly as repulsive as 1-in-5 ‘landslide labor’ – but much more honest – so what would you think?

Starmer is the mRNA c’vid vaccine of the political world: Very dangerous, not what it claims to be (a vaccine/a left of centre politician), built on a lie and massively misrepresented by the corporate press.

      2. On the present mood of the country – see this recent YouGov poll featured in this piece….

        https://wingsoverscotland.com/the-great-hollowing/

…….in which even 50% of Labour voters don’t want Starmer as PM (the equivalent figure for the Blue and Yellow Tories is even worse)…. your TINA is about as popular as syphilis. If an election were held now, the likelihood is that the total number not voting would exceed the combined total of the votes of all other sections of the uni-party.

In fact, given you have a record of, let’s go with, enthusiasm for polls I’m surprised you did not bring it to our attention first, Billy.

      3. Will you be voting for them in the next general election?

Again, deliberately asking the wrong question in order to deflect from your enablement of deform.

The question is: How will keef enable them next time around?

Will keef contest the the already-held deform seats, will he e making sure that any surviving candidate from the left (wherever that may occur, seeing as you’ve already enabled a dictstorship within your own party) is starved of campaign funds and support in order to install deformists”

We already know keef’s policies are designed and implemented to further support for farage and his band of grifters.

How does keef intend to increase their share?

Because already we’re seeing deform with a lead over both keef and the first XI, according to the opinion polls you’re ever so fond of.

…But strangely, you haven’t posted a link to THAT one, have ya?

        Nonce.

  2. Indeed ‘qwertboi’. I had the lowest expectations of Starmer from the very day he became Leader of the Labour Party, but never in my wildest imagination did I think he would sink as low as he has since then. I am old now and it saddens and angers me a great deal to see how he and his backers have totally trashed the Labour Party I joined in the 60’s.

And yes, I have come to the conclusion Starmer is actually worse than the likes of Badenoch and Farage. We expect nothing better from them, but I for one expect much, much more from a Leader of the Labour Party and Labour Government.

Apart from the immorality of much of what he has done, he is also a totally inept politician with absolutely no political ‘nous’!

    1. EVERYTHING YOU’VE JUST SAID RESONATES WITH ME 100%, Julia.

That last ‘no political nous’ point is so true with Sir ‘Blackcroock’ Starmer and his ‘black hole’ neighbour, the Chancellor who rigs her CV as much as her political narrative to produce an ever-increasing ‘need’ for deeper and CRUELER austerity.

These political “no-nousers”. (love it, Julia, it fits them like a glove) are actually destroying the Labour brand. Whenever the next GE happens, not even ‘1-in-5’ voters are likely to trust Austerity- and Genocide-enabling Labour or its Emperor with no clother/nouse, Kier Rodney Starmer (UK agent for BlackRock). Labour’s dead already. “Affiliated Unions” are actually an insult to the working class.

  3. They’ve made the Labour party a magnet/repository for and a distillation of all the very worst, most corrupt, sharpest-elbowed, most easily brainwashed shitlib careerist no-nousers in society. It’s quite an achievement, this inversion of decency. Almost, as Harold Pinter would’ve said of it’s black humour, “witty”.

As Julia says, you expect no better from the Tories. But when it comes from Labour, you know Satan is in charge! It’s as close as you’ll get to a manifestation of evil without it actually goose-stepping up Whitehall to break up your rally.
