Breaking: police blockade Whitehall, Horse Guards against anti-genocide march

Families marching with kids for peace in Gaza confronted by police blockades

Peaceful protesters barred by police from beginning their march.

The peaceful anti-genocide march in London is being held up by police blocking key roads on the route.

Skwawkbox reported earlier the government’s ‘sinister’ deployment of outside police forces and riot units against peaceful marchers – including many Jewish anti-apartheid activists – sparking fears of ‘kettling’ and police violence to appease pro-Israel groups that have attempted to disrupt the march and change its planned route. Now those fears appear to be coming true as police park vans and place barriers across roads against marchers consisting largely of elders, families with young children and other entirely peaceful protesters:

Children play and adults wait as the march is held up by police blockades.

Marchers who have spoken to officers say police are allowing individuals to pass ‘as long as they don’t have a lot of paraphernalia’, but have been told to block the march itself.

March organisers have defied attempts by the state to appease pro-Israel groups who have demanded route changes to disrupt the march because of its supposed impact on two synagogues – there are no synagogues on the planned route – but which appear mainly designed to stop the march reaching the BBC’s headquarters, where it will demonstrate against the BBC’s evident anti-Palestinian bias.

An earlier version of this article used ‘Whitechapel’ in the headline and has been corrected to ‘Whitehall’

  1. I wonder if there’s any separate protester presence outside the BBC? I was in Whitehall earlier, but didn’t want to waste the extra tube fare going up to Broadcasting House to find out!

  2. ‘PIGS IN CAPITALIST BLANKETS?’
    ‘Under orders loving their power?
Ruffing the best of diverse humanity up?
The Western Barbarians sell their souls for power.
And sup at the PROFIT cup!’
But in terms of the progress of humanity these grotesque human beings may well have never existed.
So we have campaigned for 15 months to try to stop the slaughter of 200,000 plus Palestinians & others.
Let’s hope the Ceasefire holds but beware 2 States where Palestinians get 20% of their country back but even that is under the supervision of the Occupation Force.
One Multi-Ethnic Democratic State of Palestine from the rivers to the sea then diverse citizens can live together in peace & class politics becomes the norm.
But we should continue until then with BDS as all capital recognises only one thing – being hit in the pocket!
Yours in Peace, Love & Solidarity.
