Ireland ‘to turn empty Israeli embassy into Palestine Museum’

Israel closed embassy in Dublin in tantrum over Ireland’s support for Palestine. Irish response is perfect

Representative image, not the actual embassy building.

Ireland’s response to Israel’s decision to close its embassy in Dublin over Irish support for the Palestinian people is perfect.

Israel said last week that it would close its embassy – a fit of pique because Ireland has recognised Palestinian statehood and announced it will join South Africa’s genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), with Israeli foreign minister Gideon Sa’ar accusing Ireland of:

actions, double standards, and antisemitic rhetoric of the Irish government against Israel [that] are rooted in efforts to delegitimise and demonise the Jewish state.

Irish Taoiseach (PM) Simon Harris responded that Israel would not ‘silence Ireland’ on the issue of Gaza, adding:

You know what I think is reprehensible? Killing children, I think that’s reprehensible. You know what I think is reprehensible? Seeing the scale of civilian deaths that we’ve seen in Gaza. You know what I think is reprehensible? People being left to starve and humanitarian aid not flowing.

And now, in a perfect and perfectly Irish riposte to Israel’s genocide and petulance, the abandoned former embassy on Shelbourne Road in the grand Lansdowne area of Dublin is to be turned into a museum of Palestine, so it is, in cooperation with the Palestine Museum US, which published its version of an Irish jig at the news:

  1. Absolutely excellent response from Ireland there! The genocide and grotesque suffering of the Palestinian people at Israel’s hands must never be forgotten.

  2. Superb. They could top it by inviting them israelis back to see what they’ve done with the gaff. šŸ˜

  3. Good move Ireland, let’s not forget that we should not conflate Judaism with Zionism.
