British Medical Association dancing to pro-Israel pressure group LAAS smears against president

Shamelessness of antisemitism-scam perpetrators in attack on GP who stands against genocide

The British Medical Association (BMA) has put its president under investigation after a laughable smear by pro-Israel pressure group LAAS – the same misnamed ‘Labour against antisemitism’ at the heart of the antisemitism scam against the Labour left and then-party leader Jeremy Corbyn.

The group, emboldened by red-Tory Health Secretary Wes Streeting’s comments to the right-wing Daily Telegraph calling for doctors who speak out against Israel’s genocide in Gaza to be struck off, has lodged a complaint with the BMA accusing Dr Mary McCarthy of ‘amplifying’ posts that it claims are antisemitic because they were by anti-genocide writer Sarah Wilkinson – and because one dared call Israel’s genocide in Gaza a ‘holocaust’, which it undoubtedly is:

Among the LAAS accusations is that Dr Mary McCarthy shared reports of Israel bombing a church ‘which were later shown to be untrue’. According to the BBC and others, Israel bombed the church as well as murdering worshippers by sniper bullets.

In fact, Streeting’s position is antisemitic, because he paints all UK Jews as holding the same – supportive – opinion of Israel’s genocidal mass murder of Palestinian civilians and its other crimes against humanity in pursuit of their extermination, including the use of starvation as a weapon, torture, summary execution, targeting children, health workers and journalists and the destruction of the conditions needed to support life. The so-called ‘LAAS’ is following the same line, claiming that ‘Jewish doctors’ will feel uncomfortable because McCarthy and other doctors oppose genocide – when many Jewish doctors, Jewish academics, Holocaust survivors and others are horrified by Israel’s war crimes and atrocities.

LAAS, its adherents and groups like them have a record of racism, attempted intimidation and smears. Its activists have been successfully sued for foul libel; one of its founders was repeatedly disciplined by his university employers for smears and abuse, smeared Jewish author Michael Rosen – who was also threatened by an LAAS director, eventually committed suicide while enmeshed in a losing legal action brought by one of his victims and was pilloried by his own widow in an article on abusive men. The BMA should have laughed LAAS and its complaint out of the room, especially when Israel’s genocide is being live-streamed daily for the whole world to see.

The Starmer regime is already engaged in a war on British journalists and activists who expose and oppose Israel’s racism, apartheid, genocide and propaganda, misusing anti-terror laws to arrest, intimidate and criminalise them. But it appears that this is not enough for the ‘Zionist without qualification’ and his lackeys – or for pro-Israel propagandists and pressure groups whose reflex reaction to the exposure of Israel’s criminality is to accuse its critics of antisemitism. Now doctors and anyone else they can target, stigmatise and deprive of their living must be harried if they dare call a genocide a genocide. The pro-Israel smear tactics are discredited and no British organisation should be entertaining them for a second.
