Video: new Syrian official says Israel – which is bombing and has invaded – is not Syria’s enemy

The only enemy is Iran, Ayman al-Asimi tells BBC, as Israel destroys Syrian arms and infrastructure and seizes territory

A senior official of the new Syrian regime has told the BBC that Israel is not an enemy, rather a friend or ‘potential friend’.

While Israel spent years semi-secretly supporting the terrorist groups, including ISIS and al-Qaeda, that removed the regime of Bashar al-Assad and took over Syria this week, it immediately carried out the largest bombing raids in its history to destroy Syrian arms, fuel, research and ships, assassinated at least three leading Syrian scientists – and launched an invasion to seize huge swathes of Syrian territory, including along Syria’s border with Lebanon. It has also escalated its already-horrific genocide of the Palestinian people in Gaza and is threatening Lebanon’s sovereignty via the new territory it holds.

But Ayman Al-Asimi, a member of the so-called ‘Syrian National Coalition’ and the former head of the ‘Syrian’ ‘opposition’, told the BBC – in response to a direct question whether the invading occupation is the new regime’s enemy – that its only enemy is Iran and it has only ‘friends’ and ‘potential friends’ elsewhere:

The US, UK and Turkey have all militarily assisted the coalition of terrorist groups. US planners, as long ago as the early 2000s, have been explicit that the reason for bringing down the Assad regime was to help Israel. Western politicians and media are already rehabilitating the image of the new regime, despite reports of street beheadings and executions since the former government’s fall.
