“We’re reporting what we’re living. We’re reporting our own suffering. We are one people”

Palestinian journalist Anas al-Sharif, who before Israel’s genocide in Gaza began was a press photographer, has been awarded the ‘Human Rights Defender Award’ for 2024 by Amnesty International.
In a speech that typifies the fearlessness and self-sacrifice of journalists in Gaza – more of whom have been killed since October last year than in any previous conflict since at least 1992, many of them targeted by Israel along with their families – Sharif pointed to the suffering of those around him and said ‘We are one people… we are reporting on our own suffering’:
He also said that he was accepting the reward on behalf of all Palestinian journalists and that he was receiving it on the anniversary of his father’s murder by Israel:
Sharif, one of just six surviving journalists in northern Gaza – all designated as terrorists by Israel and marked for death – found out live on air in October that several further members of his family had been killed in an Israeli airstrike.

Israel continues to murder journalists and their families as it tries to prevent the world from seeing their reports and film of its atrocities. Rather than condemn their murders, the UK government is colluding in Israel’s genocide by targeting journalists in this country, who report Israel’s crimes, for arrest, harassment and seizure of the electronics they need to do their work.

Congrats…FWIW.
Although the cynic in me can’t help but fear he’s become (even more of) a priority target.
…For the rest of his days. 😕

Whilst if he was a Western Oligarch terrorist asset with a reputation for slaughtering civilians considered by his handlers as literal animals and untermenschen he could look forward to being redesignated as a cuddly Father Christmas figure with a slightly racy past who has suddenly discovered diversity and want a rainbow armband for Christmas.

Meanwhile, the one man operated UK based (out of Coventry) Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which wikipedia describes as having…..
“been described as being “pro-opposition” or anti-Assad and has been criticised for refusing to share its data or methodology. It has been also criticised for selective reporting, covering only violent acts of the government forces against the opposition for the first two years of its existence and reporting anti-government fighter deaths as civilians deaths.”
…..posted this report on 10/12/24 (yesterday):
“Having been besieged by faction | Injured combatants of “Manbij Military Council Forces” extrajudicially executed in eastern Aleppo
On Dec 10, 2024
Aleppo province: Factions of “Dawn of Freedom” operations room extrajudicially executed tens of injured combatants of “Manbij Military Council Forces,” who were receiving medical treatment in a military hospital near Al-Matahen roundabout in the north of Manbij city in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, after the factions having besieged them and blocked roads used for evacuating them from the city.
Meanwhile, sporadic clashes and tit-for-tat clashes are underway between “Manbij Military Council Forces” and factions of the “National Army” in the city’s neighbourhoods, amid growing military tension in the region, as the factions managed to take control of several neighbourhoods.
On the other hand, factions of “Dawn of Freedom” operations room continued looting and setting fire to properties of Kurdish civilians.
While in the western countryside of Ain Al-Arab (Kobani), Turkish forces and their proxy factions fired artillery shells on Qarquzaq bridge and positions in Sheyoukh town and Zor Maghar village, amid unconfirmed reports on casualties.
Yesterday, SOHR sources reported that Turkish-backed factions carried out identity-bases executions and assaulted properties of nearly 30,000 Kurdish families in Manbij City.
The factions carried out revengeful operations in Nawaha and Al-Asadiya neighbourhoods and Al-Jazeera road, where they burnt houses of civilians, stole their properties, insulted them and executed at least three people including a woman.
Ten civilians were killed under artillery shelling by Turkish forces on Zarfan Village eastern of Manbij, coinciding with displacement of residents of Manbij to eastern of Euphrates.”
But, yeah” Y;know, apart from that it’s perfectly safe, reasonable, legal and moral to send every single Syrian refugee who has fled to Europe back into the area without verifying what the hell is going on before making such an inhumane decision.
In fact, and I don’t know about anyone else here, I’m somewhat surprised at the absence of anyone on this site defending the UK and European Government’s position on this debacle of a shit show.
Whilst The Cradle…..

…..reports;
“On Monday, ISIS militants killed 54 Syrian army soldiers who were fleeing an attack by the terror group in the central province of Homs.
ISIS militants captured “personnel fleeing military service in the desert … during the collapse of the regime” of president Bashar al-Assad and “executed 54″ of them in the Sukhna area in the Homs desert, SOHR stated.
Syrian sources reported the assassination on Tuesday of Sheikh Tawfiq al-Bouti by unknown attackers.
(Update 11 December 18:30 GMT: Al-Mayadeen TV on Wednesday night broadcast a video message recorded by Bouti in which he personally denied the rumors of his assassination.)
Bhouti was the son of the world-renowned Sunni Muslim scholar Sheikh Muhammad Saeed Ramadan al-Bouti, who was assassinated along with 40 others in a mosque in 2013 by members of the Nusra Front, now known as HTS. The elder Bouti was an advocate of Sufism, and an opponent of Salafi interpretations of Islam that teach hatred against non-Muslims. Bouti was a strong supporter of Bashar al-Assad’s government and spoke against the extremist armed groups attacking Syrian civilians, police, and soldiers during the war that began in 2011.”
But, hey! Who are we to question The Official Narrative (TON) that this is far better than what it has replaced?
