Hours after welcoming fall of Assad, Netanyahu’s military attacks arms depots, security buildings – and residential areas
Israel has mass-bombed the historic Syrian city of Damascus – one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world – starting only hours after its war criminal PM Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed and took credit for the fall of the regime of Bashar al-Assad that left al-Qaeda and ISIS factions in charge of Syria.
Israel has up to now cooperated with and supported the mainly-foreign terrorist groups in their war against the Syrian government, including treating their wounded fighters so they could return to battle – and its US ally’s forces bombed government troops in support of the terror groups only last week – but immediately turned on its erstwhile allies once they had served their purpose and might stand in the way of Netanyahu’s territory-grab.
UK politicians, media and Establishment figures have been frantically whitewashing the nature of the terrorist groups and their leaders, claiming – against the evidence, just as with Ukrainian neo-nazi groups – that they are now merely a ‘liberation movement’ and have cut ties with ISIS and al-Qaeda.
Israeli warplanes targeted fuel and weapons storage, security facilities and residential areas, triggering huge fires across the city:
Three Israeli air strikes hit a major government complex in the Kafr Sousa district of Damascus, setting its buildings on fire:

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said, ‘Israeli strikes targeted a security complex in Damascus near the former regime’s buildings’.
Israel’s army chief of staff Herzi Halevi announced last night that Israel is now fighting on four fronts – Gaza, the West Bank Lebanon and Syria – as the apartheid settler-colonial regime continues its ethnic cleansing and illegal seizure of territory, among a constant flood of other war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The Greater Judea project continues into its next phase. Leaving open the question as to whether or not any recognisable national sovereign Syrian – or for that matter Lebanon (Jordan even?) – entity will actually endure for very much longer?
‘We destroyed the country (and its people) to save it’ seems the most appropriately accurate description of the reality of the developing situation. Though, doubtless, the hapless chroniclers who channel their inner Candide will be filling up social media BTL to push an increasingly threadbare and credible free Official Narrative that everything has turned out for the best in the face of a reality that is the precise opposite.
Still, as long as all those resources are flowing Westward into the “Garden” for the benefit oi the 1% among the “Golden Billion” to keep the failing and unworkable Ponzi scheme that passes for an economic system going a little bit longer – kicking the can down the road before its inevitable collapse – that’s all that matters.
Perhaps someone could waylay Lindsey Graham for an update on how many trillions of dollars this is going to make for the parasitic Western Oligarchy? Though you never know, perhaps they will sub-sub-sub-contract the dissemination of that information out to one of the useless idiot scribes, cheerleaders and gullible numpty shills who infest the BTL discussion threads on Social Media?
Now where’s that list General Wesley Clarke was talking about back in 2007? Is it IIran next? Or the Caucuses? India must certainly be looking nervously over its shoulder?
Who would have thought that the only truthful, accurate description of what is actually going on in the world would come from someone famed for their ability to lie and dissemble both in serial and parallel at the same time:
Yes Dave and perhaps the Occupation Force that calls itself Israel always had its sights on the Syrian Golan Heights.
The 75% Sunni Muslims may be celebrating in Syria but perhaps the Alawites (10%) and Other minority groups are likely to be feeling uncomfortable.
And perhaps the Israel/Western bombing now in Syria is to emasculate the new Leader and let’s him know who rules the show?
In Ukraine, New Left Review writers were really good on this arguing that the US Neo-Cons always wanted a Polish/Ukraine corridor to The Caucuses to exploit the riches beyond.
There is a commonality between Palestine/Near Middle East and Ukraine.
Zelensky recently admitted 43,000 had been killed in Ukraine, probably more, and The Lancet projected 200,000+ Palestinians killed in Palestine & beyond, both slaughtered mainly for US profits as the also Grotesque other Western Leaders clamour for a share.
Two Ceasefires please, a Free Multi-Ethnic Democratic State of Palestine from the rivers to the sea & a slightly reduced Ukraine, though much of its privatised land & services are now owned by US companies!
Yours in Peace & Justice.
“The 75% Sunni Muslims may be celebrating in Syria but perhaps the Alawites (10%) and Other minority groups are likely to be feeling uncomfortable”
In terms of the general understanding of a ‘minority’ – ie a relatively small percentage of the larger populace – that is certainly going to be the case. However, using that same metric there is going to be a majority of the overall populace who are going to feel a lot more than uncomfortable.
As I was reminded not an hour ago in a conversation on the matter. Women – in terms of the Reality Based Community Biological definition – make up slightly more than 50% of any population. Given the track record of a lot of these groups of now ‘cuddly’ Jihadists, it won’t just be King Hussain of Jordon stocking up on brown trousers and toilet rolls – if there are any to be had.
Not that you would find much in the way of concern for what they clearly see as such trivialities from the pack of hyena’s that is masquerading as a fourth estate who will doubtless be hard at it right now trying to come up with selling a narrative that a US State Department listed terrorist with a $10 million CIA bounty on his head is a more fitting head of government than a simple ophthalmologist who only got the job because his brother died in a car accident.
Still, there are still a few rare cases where actual accurate reporting – rather than simply scribing the empire narrative which has turned journalism into the genuine ‘oldest profession’.
Cue this piece from Vanessa Beeley: Which is worth posting in its entirety:
https://beeley.substack.com/p/safe-while-syria-burns
“More than 350 Israeli airstrikes targeting Syrian territory in the past hours, and an enemy Israeli occupation of Syrian territory equivalent to twice the size of the Gaza Strip, and their army is less than 40 km away from the capital Damascus.
After a rather turbulent 48 hours I am safe and will be writing and broadcasting as normal very shortly. I had one hour to pack one suitcase, take one dog and get through a border swarming with armed thugs looting and fighting amongst themselves over the spoils. The night before was spent besieged by armed groups firing in the air to celebrate their “victory” while Israel started using bunker buster bombs on Syrian military sites and air defence close to the house. The house shook from top to bottom. At 10am truckloads of armed thieves arrived and battered at my front gate. I was on the phone to a friend who begged me to find a weapon – clearly I don’t have any. I yelled at them from inside and the dogs went crazy. After three batterings they left.
Much more to recount over the coming days. Social media is a mess of lies, misinformation and downright hypocrisy. Thank you to everyone who emailed and messaged, it really lifted my spirits at an all time low.
I wrote this note this morning. I need a long time to process the loss for the whole world and for me as a human being who saw my future living in my beloved Syria.
Anyone who can explain why Assad’s pre-recorded farewell speech and possible explanation of the catastrophic events was not aired, as planned, after he left the country, please get in touch.
All the backstabbers who are now turning against Assad, protecting their interests – you were in a position to say something for 14 years. Why didn’t you?
I don’t blame any of the ordinary people for adopting the new era. People in Syria are isolated and afraid, some are terrified.
The mainstream media vultures are flooding in to claw at the corpse of one of the oldest civilisations in the world. History will be revised as it always is – by the victor. If only the Victor were genuinely Syrian and grass roots, not a terrorist force incubated in #CIA black sites and empowered by Israel and the collective Western alliance of callous hegemony.
Syria will become a toothless melting pot of foreign interests, resource looting and expanding Zionist land grab. A nation without an army and without any military infrastructure is not a nation. It’s a playing field for the predators.
This is a record of Israeli strikes so far against Syrian military and defence infrastructure:
A squadron of 30 Israeli aircraft over Syria strikes military installations and air defense.
– Israeli Air Force targeted the headquarters of the Electronic Warfare Administration near Al-Bahdaliyah, adjacent to the city of Sayyida Zeinab in Damascus countryside.
– Israel bombed scientific research centers in Barzeh in Damascus, the 47th Brigade in Hama, and the helicopter airport in Aqraba.
– Israeli airstrikes on Yafour area in the countryside of Damascus..
– Israeli warplanes bomb the ship port in Latakia. According to reports, the attacks targeted military ships anchored in the port.
Israel is exploiting the collapse of the state in Syria and is destroying all the strategic capabilities of the Syrian army to prevent anyone from benefiting from them in the future to rebuild a strong army
Israeli warplanes have become capable of entering Syrian airspace and using bunker-busting bombs
Israel has destroyed all Syrian air defense bases and military airports and is now intensively targeting ballistic missile warehouses and weapons factories.
Houses in Damascus are shaking due to the intensity of successive Israeli air strikes
Dozens of Israeli airstrikes are now being carried out in various parts of Syria
Israeli raids on Qamishli airport in northeastern Syria
Israeli airstrikes on Jableh on the Syrian coast
Israel renewed its airstrikes on Aqraba military airport in Damascus countryside and the Shinshar area south of Homs
Israeli airstrikes on Basil Al-Assad military airport in Jableh.”
One trusts that all those whinging about the number of displaced refugees entering Europe and the UK will actually learn how to put two and two together and start turning their misplaced ire on the politicians rather than the victims.
Maybe
Maybe, Israel has made a mistake by supporting Islamists. The common threat among the middle East countries in the 1960 and 1970 was their dislike of Israel.
Even Iran the closest ally to the US in the area didn’t recognise Israel at the time. First Egypt and then Jordan agreed to recognise Israel paving the way for normalising little by little a relationship within Israel and its Arabs neighbours.
Some Arab governments in the region wouldn’t mind to normalise relations with Israel, even now. However, their populations its another matter entirely and Israel actions in Gaza has set back the Abraham Accords for at least another 5 years .
Whatever group takes control of Syria, will need to re-establish good relationships with its neighbours. Iran has allowed Assad to be defeated and its already signing a willingness to work with whoever is in government in Syria.
My bet is that the new regime will need to play for the gallery, after all they are Syrians and have not reason to like Israel or the US. I believe given time it would follow a similar pattern to Afghanistan: thank you US for funding us but, now don’t need you any longer and we are in charge.
Time will tell, but I believe Turkey will be able to exert more influence in whoever gets in charge in Syria that the US or Israel. My hope is that is going to backfire.
The biggest losers as always are going to be the Kurds, because what the Islamists groups are signing is that they all want to keep the established and internationally recognised Syria’s borders. Hence, the formation of Kurdistan as a new country isn’t going to happen anytime soon.
