Video shows US A-10 ‘Warthog’ ‘providing air cover for al Qaeda-linked rebels’ in Syria

Warplane’s distinctive outline clear in video clip

A US A-10 ‘Warthog’ ground attack aircraft has been filmed apparently attacking Syrian government forces in support of rebel fighters who have advanced to take control of Aleppo.

The plane, which can devastate tank and infantry columns, has a distinctive silhouette as shown in this US Air Force publicity image:

And the same can be clearly seen in this footage said to have been filmed in Deir ez-Zur in eastern Syria, suggesting the US is directly involved in the Syrian war on the side of armed factions that include Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), an official wing of terror group Al Qaeda, and ISIS:

The Pentagon has claimed that its direct action in Syria is limited to support the so-called ‘Syrian Democratic Forces’ (SDF) – which are linked to the Kurdish PKK, which the US, UK, EU and others have designated as a terrorist group – against ISIS. Syrian rebels have said they are taking advantage of Israel’s weakening of Lebanon and Syria, and the supposed ceasefire in Lebanon, to push forward.

The US is not alone in apparently helping terrorist groups in the Syria war. Shadow Foreign Secretary Priti Patel, at the time International Development Secretary under Theresa May, was made to resign after being exposed making off-book visits to Israeli military hospitals in the illegally-occupied Golan Heights that have treated wounded ISIS and HTS fighters since the Syrian war began – which she then asked May’s government to fund.

A-10s are also reported to have attacked Iraqi forces trying to help fight against Syrian extremist groups.

The UK Royal Air Force has also conducted strikes in Syria in support of anti-government rebels. It has claimed these were western-backed ‘coalition’ forces, but the strikes were in north-western Syria, the primary territory of HTS.

A screenshot of the MOD page listing the Syria strike.

Support for a proscribed organisation in the UK can lead to prison terms of up to fourteen years for UK residents and the Starmer government is misusing anti-terror legislation to target journalists and activists, many of them Jewish, who oppose Israel’s genocide, but it seems UK allies, and potentially the UK itself, helping terrorist groups is fine as long as it’s considered in US/Israeli interests.

    1. From the above linked article:

“But an official source with knowledge of the event told Defense News Wednesday that the A-10′s involvement in Syrian airspace has been far more limited, with flights largely conducted as shows of force in the east.”

What exactly does a “show of force'” involve?

An acrobatic aerial display? A jolly? Or providing air cover for head chopping so called “moderate” Jihadist Terrorists?

      Again, from the article:

“One video making the rounds, meanwhile, was taken the morning of Dec. 3, around the time U.S. Central Command forces carried out a strike near Military Support Site Euphrates.”

Who was the target of this strike?

The Kurds (PKK)? the HTS head chopping Jihadists? Or legitimate forces of Syria and those assisting the Syrian government to restore order?

      Continuing:

“That particular operation destroyed several weapon systems, including three truck-mounted multiple rocket launchers, a T-64 tank, an armoured personnel carrier and mortars, CENTCOM said in a release.”

Who did this destroyed military equipment belong to?

Turkey? Russia (T-64 is a Russian model)? Syria? Forces helping the Syrian Government to restore order?

““The U.S. mission in Syria remains unchanged as U.S. and coalition forces continue to focus on the enduring defeat of ISIS.”

Taking their time, aren’t they? ISIS and related Jihadist groups which the US is on record as funding have been sat in a safe space in Syria for years protected by the American’s whilst the US openly steals Syrian oil – which US politicians have admitted is the case.

Like many Official Statements, the article raises more questions than it answers.

      1. Dave – I’m not your researcher, do your own.

How do you square your self proclaimed ‘socialist principles’ with your support of authoritarian dictatorships?

      2. “Dave – I’m not your researcher, do your own.”

Billy – And where, precisely and explicitly, is such a request specifically made to you anywhere in the post of 3:41 pm, 05/12/2024 above to which you are referring?

        Take your time.

And when you have failed to find such a request, which will be the case – because nowhere in that post have I referred to you in any way whatsoever, explicitly or implicitly (I was merely trying to be helpful towards you in filling in the gaps of the link you posted) – I look forward to your apology for thinking I, or for that matter anyone on this site, would ever contemplate the ridiculous notion that someone (ie yourself, Billy) who has on countless occasions demonstrated their total inability, ineptitude, disdain, contempt and lack of gorm towards even basic evidence based research could, never mind would, be trusted to perform such a task which is beyond their meagre, to the point of non-existent, cognitive abilities.

“How do you square your self proclaimed ‘socialist principles’ with your support of authoritarian dictatorships?”

When you can point out anywhere on this site where I have expressed such support – rather than in the fevered imaginations of your evidence free re-interpretation of support for the Generic Principle of everyone else outside the Collective West having the same rights to security, self-defence and R2P – then your evidence free question might be worth some serious consideration.

Again, take your time, Billy. As you do. Because you’ve been asked to substantiate this fantasy of your own construction on numerous occasions and have failed to do so.

No one on this site will be holding their breath for any kind of grown up mature response from someone (ie you, Billy) who has consistently demonstrated their total disdain towards and contempt of basic fundamental British Values.

      3. Dave – Oh for goodness sake get over yourself, you were the one who replied to my original comment with a load of questions.

As for your gullible support for some very unsavoury regimes I am quite happy for people to read the comments that you have made over the last week and make up their own minds about whether or not you support the likes of Putin, Xi, Assad and the brutal theocracy in Iran.

      4. A simple “no I can’t” would have sufficed, Billy.

Meanwhile, you are invited once again to point out any specific post with my name which fits your propaganda lie with chapter and verse to support your evidence free smears.

      5. By eck! The tumbleweed is starting to get a bit thick around here.

      6. Which was once again nothing more than the usual evidence free assertions and smears we have become accustomed to from you Billy.

Which is why there is so much tumbleweed about.

The only evidence one can glean from what passes for discourse from you, Billy, is the evidence that Thatcher’s Care in the Community Policy has been an abject failure.

      7. Dave – It’s not my problem that I’m living rent free inside your head

      8. Is that why almost every time I post something on this site, you appear out of nowhere and are immediately all over it like a rash.

It’s little wonder you need a little nap in the afternoon, the amount of time you spend chasing me all over this site.

  1. Pepe Escobar has a wonderful article out today regarding the planning by various actors which enabled the massive incursion into Syria, he says the Global Majority should be on full alert. The Greater Idiblistan attack is part of a complex interconnected operation.
    The timeline tells the story.
November 18: Ronen Bar, Israel’s Shin Bet chief, meets with heads of MIT, Turkey’s intel.
November 25: NATO Chief Mark Rutte meets with Turkey’s Sultan Erdogan.
November 26: Salafi-jihadis assembled by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), formerly Nusa Front, supported by Turkish intel, plus a hefty Rent-a-Jihadi coalition, launch a lightning-fast attack against Aleppo.
The Rent-a-Jihadi offensive originated in Greater Idlibistan. That’s where tens of thousands of jihadis were holed up, according to the – now proven failed – 2020 Damascus-Moscow strategy, which Turkey had to grudgingly accept. The Rent-a-Jihadi mob comprises scores of mercenaries who crossed over from – where else – Turkey: Uighurs, Uzbeks, Tajiks, Ukrainians, even ISIS-K imports.

Erdoğan (the backstabber) must be sidelined by Russia, China and Iran. The Astana process has been torn to shreds in order for Erdogan’s Turkish expansionist dreams, probably also to curry favour with the incoming Trump administration. As regards Israel he talks a big game but still supplies Israel with cheap oil and other trade.
In my opinion the Al CIAda were closely involved how could it be otherwise. as detailed in operation ‘Timber sycamore’ wiki

    1. Harry – Escobar also makes the point in that piece:

“Yet the logical conclusion is that Ankara may have just buried the Astana process – by betraying their political partners Russia and Iran.”

Making explicit the point that Erdoğan is non-agreement capable.

      This point is pivotal.

Simply because conversely, over at the Duran it appears that it is being argued the Russian Federation should (is?) make(ing?) Assad – who has for some time refused to meet Erdoğan due to Turkey’s role in trying to overthrow him the first time – meet with someone ( Erdoğan ) who has proven themselves to be non-agreement capable.

Erdoğan’s obvious role in destroying the earlier agreement he was party to – and insisted upon – is no different to the betrayal represented by Minsk. It makes no sense for the RF to force Assad to go down a path they themselves are adamant they are not prepared to entertain, for the same sound reasons – ie the Collective West is non-agreement capable. Reasons which the Duran have made clear they are in favour of.

Making it appear that they (The Duran) are trying to face both ways at the same time on this issue by picking and choosing where a general/generic principle based on sound reasoning applies and where it does not.

Seems to me that Mercouris, at least, may be misinterpreting the transcript of the phone call between Erdoğan and Putin due to confirmation bias on his part. It seems just as conceivable to consider that the RF may be making a veiled threat in that transcript, inviting Erdoğan to get his act together to use Turkey’s position to reverse its action of undermining the earlier agreements and that the RF had decided to keep Erdoğan on a very short lease.

    2. Meanwhile, here is Craig Murray yesterday (Dec 6):

      https://www.craigmurray.org.uk/archives/2024/12/the-end-of-pluralism-in-the-middle-east/

The End of Pluralism in the Middle East

“A truly seismic change in the Middle East appears to be happening very fast. At its heart is a devil’s bargain – Turkey and the Gulf States accept the annihilation of the Palestinian nation and creation of a Greater Israel, in return for the annihilation of the Shia minorities of Syria and Lebanon and the imposition of Salafism across the Eastern Arab world.

This also spells the end for Lebanon and Syria’s Christian communities, as witness the tearing down of all Christmas decorations, the smashing of all alcohol and the forced imposition of the veil on women in Aleppo now.

Yesterday US Warthog air-to-ground jets attacked and severely depleted reinforcements which were, at the invitation of the Syrian government, en route to Syria from Iraq. Constant, daily Israeli airstrikes on Syria’s military infrastructure for months have been a major factor in the demoralisation and reduced capacity of the Syrian government’s Syrian Arab Army, which has simply evaporated in Aleppo and Hama.”

The US Government, with the support of rest of its colony’s in the West are not only supporting known terrorists – designated as such by the US State Department – by not only arming, training, financing, whitewashing and creating said terrorists but are also evidently fighting alongside these terrorist head choppers, providing air cover and attacking anyone coming to the aid of the terrorised Syrian people.

“Abu Mohammad Al-Jolani, sometimes spelt Al-Julani or Al-Golani, who is now being boosted throughout western media as a moderate leader. He was the deputy leader of ISIS, and the CIA actually has a $10 million bounty on his head! Yes, that is the same CIA which is funding and equipping him and giving him air support.

The same Abu Mohammad Al-Jolani, and the organisation he heads, is being whitewashed in the UK media

“from the Telegraph and Express to the Guardian promote[ing] the official narrative that not just the same organisations, but the same people responsible for mass torture and executions of non-Sunnis, including Western journalists, are now cuddly liberals.”

Murray goes on to note another revealing feature which provides a further insight into the double standards of The Rules Based International Order:

“One interesting consequence of this joint NATO/Israel support for the jihadist groups in Syria is a further perversion of domestic rule of law. To take the UK as an example, under Section 12 of the Terrorism Act it is illegal to state an opinion that supports, or may lead somebody else to support, a proscribed organisation.

The abuse of this provision by British police to persecute Palestinian supporters for allegedly encouraging support for proscribed organisations Hamas and Hezbollah is notorious, with even tangential alleged references leading to arrest. Sarah Wilkinson, Richard Medhurst, Asa Winstanley, Richard Barnard and myself are all notable victims, and the persecution has been greatly intensified by Keir Starmer.

Yet Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS) is also a proscribed group in the UK. But both British mainstream media and British Muslim outlets have been openly promoting and praising HTS for a week – frankly much more openly than I have ever witnessed anyone in the UK support Hamas and Hezbollah – and not a single person has been arrested or even warned by UK police.”

Another example of “The Rules Based International Order” operating on the home Front.

      ——————————————————–

As yet another Western organised coup unfolds, those who prattle on about “the Syrian people” – in their eagerness to cheerlead yet another Western regime change using proxies – need to provide an honest (if such people are even capable of honesty) answer as to which Syrian people they actually mean?

Certainly not Shia Muslims and Christian Syrians

Yet the hypocrisy here pales in comparison to the crocodile tear virtue signalling hypocrisy on display in supposed sympathy for Palestinians whilst cheerleading on a regime change which is part and parcel of the annihilation of those same Palestinian people who, for the sake of that regime change convenience, can be thrown under a bus along with other inconvenient minorities as “the wrong type of Syrians/Lebanese/Palestinians. etc*.”

Joining their counterparts who are, under this warped mindset, the “wrong kind of Ukrainians” because they speak Russian and didn’t/don’t want to be ruled by Nazis foisted on them by Western Oligarch interests.

      * N.B. By the same artificial logic, there will also most certainly be people on these islands and across Jungle Joe Borrell’s “Garden” people who are being similarly designated as the “wrong types of Brits/Yanks/Europeans etc” by those at all levels who adopt this mindset and its subjective, post-modernist woke a la carte approach.

  2. Im so angry right now. Watching Syrians shout Allahu Akbar and reciting Bismillah Rahmani Rahim at the fall of Assad. Have we muslims really dumbed down so much that they cannot see this is the yinon plan in action.

    1. “The only person Erdoğan never back-stabbed is Netanyahu.” – Kevork Almassian

And it is notable that these US State Department listed terrorists – whose leading figure has a $10 million CIA bounty on his head, whilst at the same time being lauded and re-branded across Western media – were not only being assisted militarily by Israeli forces (as well as US forces) but are openly declaring friendly terms with Israel.

Which, as Craig Murray points out, will doom not only the Palestinians (who are largely Sunni Muslims) to effective extinction but threaten the survival of Shia, Alawite and Christian communities across the entire region.

Another example of removing those considered Untermenschen to replace them with those considered to be the chosen ones.
