Human rights group is very slow to use word ‘genocide’ but painstakingly-compiled report uses it emphatically now
Human rights organisation Amnesty International has published a 296-page report confirming what was always clear – Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. But the organisation’s history of reluctance to use the word genocide, often criticised, makes the conclusion of its new report now even more significant, as Canadian lawyer James Yap pointed out:
The report’s almost 300 pages do not even examine the full depth of the horrors Israel has inflicted on the innocent civilians of Palestine for more than a year, but says that even looking at just fifteen of the crimes Israel has committed in Gaza is enough to show definitively that Israel’s crimes are genocide, with no military objectives and deliberately designed to maximise deaths and injuries among civilians:
The report also concludes that Israel treats the Palestinians as ‘sub-human and unworthy of human rights’ – and that even the attempts of Israel ‘hasbara’ propaganda proponents is proof of genocidal intent on Israel’s part:
