New details revealed by Israeli news media and highlighted by Palestinian grassroots campaign group Everyday Palestine have confirmed what was already clear: Israeli PM and wanted war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu sabotaged at least two peace deals that had been accepted by Hamas and would have led to the release of Israeli captives held in Gaza following the raid 7 October last year.
News outlet N12 has reported on Netanyahu’s unilateral decision to ‘reduce the mandate’ of the Israeli team negotiating one deal and how another opportunity to do so was ‘missed’:
Israeli newspaper Haaretz’s description was more direct: Netanyahu reacted to the acceptance of deals by Hamas by ‘turning to sabotage’ to scupper them:
In fact, according to the Times of Israel, Hamas had offered just two or three days after the raid to release all the civilian captives as long as the Israeli military stayed out of Gaza, but Netanyahu and his cabinet refused the offer, determined to press ahead with their genocidal ‘self defence’:
US president Joe Biden and his officials had claimed to be trying to broker a deal for the release of the captives, but ultimately notorious spokesman Matthew Miller said the quiet part out loud – the US ‘never wanted to see a diplomatic resolution with Hamas’:
And Biden described a peace proposal as ‘Israel’s deal’, but when Hamas and other groups accepted it, Netanyahu then immediately rejected ‘his’ deal:
Netanyahu’s blatant sabotage of any prospect for peace and the release of Israeli captives was so obvious that Biden was attacked by a senator from his own party for not calling out Netanyahu’s sabotage:
Many of the Israeli captives in Gaza and hundreds of thousands of innocent Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed in Israel’s genocide in Gaza. Most, even all, of those deaths could have been avoided from the earliest days onward, along with the ongoing daily death toll in Gaza from Israeli bombs, missiles and starvation.
