Cooper and co peddling utter nonsense. ICC is higher court than any in UK – the claim is a ruse and the ‘specific process’ would take 30 seconds
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has been doing endless and repetitive rounds on broadcast media to say, in response to the International Criminal Court (ICC) decision to issue arrest warrants for Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and former defence minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity, that:
a) it’s not her job to say whether the UK would obey international law and extradite them to the ICC and
b) that there would be ‘legal processes’ and ‘government processes’ that would have to be completed before the UK could decide whether the extradition would go ahead.
Neither of these are true. The Home Secretary and any Secretary of State are responsible for executing ICC arrest warrants – and there is specific legislation mandating this: the International Criminal Court Act 2001, as barrister Osita Mba has pointed out:

And there is no ‘specific legal process’, except requiring a ‘judicial officer’, as described under the Act, to check the ICC arrest and extradition warrant has been issued by the ICC – and then carry it out.
There is no court in the UK that has higher authority than the ICC – and the UK is a longstanding signatory to the ICC and is bound by it – so there is no court, including the UK Supreme Court, that has authority to grant an appeal to stay, ignore or revoke the warrant. It is a ‘process’ that would take five minutes for a phone call to the ICC to check the warrant is authentic – and not even that, since it is global knowledge now that the ICC has issued the warrants.
Starmer, Cooper, Lammy and co are desperately scrabbling for any excuse not to say explicitly that they will extradite the two war criminals if they ever turn up in UK jurisdiction – and they know, since Starmer and Lammy are lawyers and Cooper has lawyers on call whenever she needs them, that the UK government has no further say beyond letting the ICC know the criminals are in handcuffs and on their way to The Hague.
Unless, of course, the UK government is prepared to break international law and UK cabinet ministers are prepared to be the subject of ICC warrants themselves. Which of course many of them should be anyway, for collaborating in Israel’s genocide and other war crimes in Gaza.
It is of course not impossible, probably not even unlikely, that the UK government would break international law. After all, Keir Starmer just appointed as his national security adviser the man who negotiated the way for Tony Blair to help Chilean dictator and war criminal Augusto Pinochet escape a warrant for his extradition.

Presumably from what the Act (above) states – he has to be extradited ie
handed over to Court officials, ending up in The Hague ..
This obfuscation was always gonna happen. Smarmerite labour has NO intention of handing the rodents over, should they ever visit these shores. They just haven’t got the stones to admit it.
Mizz balls would rather persecute the sick & disabled, and peaceful non-violebt protestors than prosecute mass murderers.
If Israel or any of its football clubs get to play English clubs, you can bet your bottom one that they’d be protected at YOUR expense while they go around trashing the town with impunity.
If it ever came to pass that those two rodents landed here and were given safe conduct, then smarmerite labour would bear total responsibility for the inevitable raised threat from fundamentalists. You’d hope (main party) opposition MPs would pick up on that, but they’re just as clueless and self-serving.
Balls is nothing more than a house-flipping, expenses claiming parasite. So much so that it took guests discounts to pay for it’s wedding to that talentless, media-whore weirdo, ed balls…The once so-called “hard man of British politics” (no, honestly!) who flogged off UK gold reserves for a pittance, and wanted sex education for kids as young as five to be made compulsory… No wonder keef holds them in regard.
They can all burn AFAIC.
I smell the sulphur of Starmer and Lammy’s ‘legal advice’ all around this attempt to shilly-shally.
What you might call ‘personal interests’.
“What you might call ‘personal interests’”
In this case, avoiding compromising themselves and their own liberty under the Rome Statute Article 25 by arresting one of their own gang.
This is totally unacceptable and has a simple explanation: they have no morals and as a consequence no principles.
Labour is lying.
Should have just stopped there Skwawk
There’s more (and less) going-on than we think.
The world rightly judges Starmer by his behaviour and by immediate humanitarian emergencies like Gaza, but this guy’s only ONE bad-faith (‘bought-politician’) player in a bigger, deeper, longer-term globalist plan.
His “rules-based international order” is seen to be essential one minute (Putin) and a Netanyahu-flavoured “hypothetical” the next. What gives? Double standards and Self-interest? Sure! Laying the groundwork for a ‘greater-good’?
To a globalist, TINA-neoliberal like Sir Keir-of-the-trilateral-commission Starmer, that ‘Greater Good’ is a proper-er “rules-based international order” , IE ONE WORLD government complete. with Central Bank Digital Currency, a global pandemic treaty, and a unchallengeable US-NATO Hegemony.
He isn’t cutting off his nose to spite his face. He’s following the US New World Order script. Bought politicians are as bought politicians do.
There’s more (and less) going-on than we think.
The “rules-based international order” simply means that the USA and allies can behave and do as they like with no accountability or come-backs. No wonder the Global South refuses to acquiesce
We have seen who starmer supports. And if anyone thinks we have to support international law then look back to Pinochet. Starmer will try anything not to have these criminals arrested.
Tayab Ali ICJP
Makes a great point on Novara media that Israel could arrest Netanyahu and Galant and hand them over as a Peace offering to get themselves off the hook for further arrest warrant’s
Same goes for the Yanks, British and Germans
At some stage like rats deserting a sinking ship they will sacrifice certain individuals to save their own criminal arses
Very well put, Doug. As one of my favourite Comedians once said: ‘they lie and they lie and they lie…..’
Maybe on of the ICC-member countries should do just that, Doug, before President-Elect Trump takes the reins and pursues his slightly different version of far-right US-centred globalism! Either way, Starmer’s not a plazyer – follower not a leader!
From the horse’s mouth (literally):
https://www.mediaite.com/tv/lindsey-graham-tells-allies-were-gonna-crush-your-economy-if-they-arrest-netanyahu-for-war-crimes/
Lindsey Graham commits to crushing the economy of the UK, Canada, France, Germany, anyone ,who tries to comply with the arrest warrant for Netanyahu.
So that’s Starmer’s plan. Sell off the UK economy and its people lock, stock and barral to Blackrock and its the asset managers who get sanctioned.
Baldrick cunning plan level brilliant.
