When only malignant buffoons can be elected, we all lose

Trump’s win in US is awful, a Harris win would have been too, same as the rigged UK Tory/Red-Tory system – especially for the Palestinians

So Trump won the US presidency. The fact that he can be president of a country is a sick joke. Israeli war criminal Netanyahu was quick to offer his warmest congratulations but if Harris had won, the idea that someone complicit in the murder of tens of thousands of children – and who unrepentantly promised to keep backing the murderers – could be elected would have been no less appalling. Both would back Israel’s war crimes and warmongering to the hilt, with just a little difference in window-dressing.

In a rigged system, the only choice given to the people is which monster rules – and the UK is just as broken: a choice between Tory Sunak/Badenoch and red-Tory Starmer is no real choice, as Starmer’s consistently malignant policy choices have shown.

The breakdown of meaningful democracy in the UK and US is appalling news for the many millions who just want their country to be decent, compassionate, fair or even just functional.

But whoever won the US election was going to be just as bad, just as deadly, for the people of Palestine and for many others too. Both of the candidates with a chance of winning the presidency are equally committed to supporting the genocide – and the only sliver of light is that the Democratic party has been forced to take a bit of a lesson in the fact that many people won’t support those who support genocide and will either stay at home or vote for an independent. The Democrat leadership assumed it could win by swinging right and ignoring the millions who are horrified by its collusion in mass slaughter – and found out it couldn’t.

Keir Starmer would have had a similar lesson in the UK, were it not for the (rigged?) situation of neo-fascist Reform cannibalising the Tory vote, allowing Starmer to win a majority on a feeble vote share of a record low turnout while offering nothing but ‘more of the same in a campaign bus marked ‘Change”.

In a rigged system where only those prepared to maintain a diseased status quo are allowed near power, whoever wins the many lose – until they realise they are the many and say ‘enough of this and no more murder too!’.

    1. Well let’s wait to see if he IS a warmongering Zionist monster before slapping labels on him. It’s the more preferable of the two outcomes. Of the two greatest threats to world peace, NATO will now be considerably less powerful and Israel…well Israel will combust spontaneously before Trump leaves the White House. Besides, he hates countries that sponge off the USA without pulling their weight, doesn’t he…
The bitter tears of anguished liberals (to say nothing of the billionaire class) sure tastes sweet this morning!

  1. Don’t vote for Trump because Dick Cheney and John Bolton have asked you not to!

I like it when Starmer pretended that there are differences between him and Badenoch.

  2. The cocaine fuelled piano dick will find funding much more difficult.

I’m sure there are more positives.

  3. I always like The New Left Review’s description of Trump: “A lumpen real estate mogul” but now we have 4 more years of the American bore who is a capitalist loose cannon.
But some choice US citizens had?
Which Pro Big Business Warmongering party Republicans or Democrats do you prefer?
Many citizens in the US with no real Left choice are really struggling financially so they’re giving Tweedle Dumb a chance over Tweedle Dem.
It is mainly white males who propelled Trump to power (54%) and the middle aged and very old.
Women were 54% for Harris and just over 50% of the young too.
Hispanics were 53% for Harris but last time it was 64% for Biden.
86% of Black people voted for Harris.
Over 50% of the college educated were for Harris whilst over 50% of the non college educated voted for Trump.
Some argue the tactics of the Right are being successful – they reel people in with inflammatory language and nationalist rhetoric and use emotive issues such as immigration often with exaggerations and all this is known as ‘feeding them red meat’ and sadly many don’t realise they are being played as the agenda for Trump et al is to serve the super rich; last time he gave himself and his super rich mates $1 trillion in tax cuts, now he has promised trillions more.
So we need to expose their tactics and counter their propaganda in straight forward language based on evidence.
The right (including the Tories & Reform here) & seem to getting a significant number of diverse working class to go against their own class interests (and many of us doing outreach stalls have witnessed mainly men fired up by Right Wing websites) and they get them to vote for and fight for the class interests of the rich, and a Left Wing void leaves the door open for this.
So as in the USA, here in the UK plus elsewhere we need a new Left Wing Democratic Socialist Party soon and not in 4 years time.

    1. Some more meat on that bone……

      https://atmos.earth/the-billionaire-ification-of-the-u-s-election/

“In January 2010, the Supreme Court changed the landscape of political campaigning by removing finance restrictions on U.S. elections. This decision enabled corporations to spend unlimited cash on ads, as long as they weren’t formally “co-ordinating” with parties.

Retrospectively, this landmark was the first step towards today’s billionaire-ification of U.S. politics. For the 2024 election, a staggering $15.9 billion was spent on ads and campaigning by both Democrats and Republicans, making it the most expensive election in history; in just one week, nearly $1 billion was poured into political ads.

It’s not just the sheer scale of the political ad spend that’s worrying, it’s the disproportionate influence of billionaires. Eighteen percent of all political ad funding came straight from the pockets of a tiny handful of America’s mega-rich. In fact, according to USA Today, Harris had 83 billionaires supporting her—making up 6% of her campaign funds, according to Al Jazeera—while 52 backed Trump, but they were extremely generous donors, making up 34% of his total campaign fund.

In other words: the country’s wealthiest bankrolled the election, wielding political power and influence like never before. Not only is this bad news for democracy, it’s catastrophic for the planet.”

And therein lies the key problem of the collapse of democracy into an oligarchy across the Collective Worst. A donor class of hedge fund financier billionaires hedging their bets by limiting choice to two options, both of whom are vetted by that donor class to ensure no one strays from the Overton Window of feudal finance capitalism.

Also, from Jill Stein, quoted on Moon of Alabama:

      “Trump won the working class:

      Jeff Stein @JStein_WaPo – 14:27 UTC · Nov 6, 2024

Staggering class realignment/shift in working class
Harris lost DESPITE major shift of affluent voters her way

      2020: Trump wins voters over $100K, 54-52
      2024: *Harris* wins voters over $100K, 54-45

      2020: Biden wins voters $50K-$100K, 57-42
      2024: *Trump* w/ voters $50K-$100K, 49-47

      2020: Biden wins voters under $50K, 55-45
      2024: Trump massive improvement w/ voters under $50K, 49-48

Harris had more billionaires on her side:”

  4. Powerful stuff Dave.
Saw a lovely post by a Spanish American woman who stood as a Socialist and she got about 10,000 votes but only by people writing her name in.
    An interesting idea.
1.Scrap the electoral college and count the popular vote.
2.Ban big business donations so they can’t buy politicians and have state funding and limits in spending for parties so it is a level playing field and IDEAS rule.
And the system serves citizens NOT Oligarchs.
3.Have political parties with members who contribute to policy.
    4. Have an independent judiciary based on merit instead of things like the Supreme Court which is appointed politically so you get partizan law which can often be bad law as we are seeing.
To paraphrase a famous saying “The state of the USA is rotten.”
Needs major democratic reform to end the rule of the USA oligarchs.

    1. Turkeys do not vote for Christmas. Not voluntarily anyway.

Given that the Oligarchy control the system, none of that is going to happen until that Oligarchy is removed kicking and screaming.

  5. According to the New Left Review the USA
has lost its moral & intellectual leadership of the world.
And half of the world is now getting organised via BRICs.
The oppressed of the world has now woken up over Palestine and we have seen Western politicians as they really are and we will never forget.
Our job is to try to politicise the masses and ideally using straight forward language.
The rich and powerful with the aid of their media ownership have to CON the masses every day.
Perhaps we only have to wake them up once then they’ll never be the same again.
    Joe Hill: “Don’t mourn, organise!”

“Re: Daily Mail story today. Yes, if Trump comes to the UK I will be out protesting on the streets. He is a racist KKK and Nazi sympathiser.”

    – David Lammy on Twitter; 12:29, 26/09/2017

“Congratulations to @realDonaldTrump on your victory.

The UK has no greater friend than the US, with the special relationship being cherished on both sides of the Atlantic for more than 80 years.

We look forward to working with you and @JDVance in the years ahead.”

    – David Lammy on Twitter/X; 03:26 am, Nov 6, 2024

“How dumb are the leaders of Britain’s Labour Party? Crikey! They are certifiable cretins, Prime Minister Keir Starmer in particular. I guess he thought it a grand idea to send Labour members to the United States to campaign for Kamala Harris. Apart from being a glaring case of meddling in the internal affairs of another country (an activity that Labour routinely attributes to Russia), it also reveals that Starmer is not a chess player — i.e., he failed to consider what would happen if Trump prevailed.

Then there is Britain’s equally moronic Foreign Minister, David Lammy. You know, the guy who is supposed to be a skilled diplomat capable of calling your baby ugly, but making you feel good about it? Well, as you can see from his X posts at the top of this article, he once thought it a good idea to label Trump a vile racist and Nazi sympathizer. This coming from a guy who insists that the UK continue to funnel money to real Nazis in Ukraine. Lammy apparently does not grasp the concept of irony. Starmer and Lammy are eating some big-time crow.”

    – Larry Johnson, former CIA analyst.

The USA is not the only place on the planet in which malignant buffoons can be elected.
