Hezbollah promises ‘new and escalating phase’ in war with Israel as Hamas confirms Sinwar killed

Militia group responds to killing of Hamas leader in Gaza, says it has already killed and wounded 550+ Israeli troops and destroyed invasion force tanks

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, left, and Yahya Sinwar (enhanced). Both have been killed by Israel.

Lebanon’s Hezbollah said early today that it will “transition to a new and escalating phase in the confrontation with Israel” in response to Israel’s killing Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in Gaza on Wednesday, which Hamas has confirmed today. Sinwar was recorded several years ago, at the age of fifty-nine, saying that he would prefer martyrdom at the hands of the occupier to a death from accident, disease or old age.

The militia group also said that it had killed fifty-five Israeli troops and wounded five hundred more in its fight against Israel’s invasion, and had destroyed twenty-four tanks and bulldozers.

Israel has said it killed Sinwar after he was spotted by chance by Israeli troops in Rafah, who fired on him and a couple of companions. A wounded Sinwar reportedly fired back, threw two grenades at the Israeli force and made it to a ruined house, where despite having only one functional arm he threw a piece of wood at an Israeli drone in a last act of defiance before being killed by a shell. The occupation military released the drone’s footage of the final moments before Sinwar’s death, but without sound – perhaps because the drone did not have audio or so that his final words and presumed ‘Allahu Akbar’ (‘God is great’) would not be heard:

The IDF releasing the video of Sinwar’s defiant death seems a gross miscalculation.

Israel’s ground invasion of Lebanon followed an indiscriminate terrorist campaign in which it detonated thousands of booby-trapped pagers and radios, killing and maiming thousands including children, and carried out mass bombing of civilian areas, including dropping around eighty-five tonnes of bombs on six residential blocks to kill Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, killing hundreds of civilians. Its initial attack was repulsed with heavy casualties and its forces went on to attack UN peacekeepers in Lebanon, wounding at least twenty and damaging UN outposts.

Netanyahu appears to be determined to provoke a regional war that will force the US to intervene directly – an outcome that has become more likely this week with US president Joe Biden’s decision to station one hundred US troops near Israeli military bases to operate an anti-ballistic missile defensive system – and effectively act as human shields – after Iran’s strike in retaliation for Israel’s killing of Nasrallah and an Iranian general successfully damaged Israeli military facilities and a Hezbollah drone attack killed several Israeli soldiers and wounded around sixty.

Israel’s genocide in Gaza continues alongside its invasion of Lebanon. As many as two hundred thousand Palestinian civilians have been killed so far, with many more wounded – and the Israeli regime is now enacting its plan to starve or drive out hundreds of thousands of trapped civilians, in the ‘Eiland plan’ that concludes with the killing of any who refuse to leave.

  1. The Israelis have thrown down the gauntlet with ‘the Generals plan’ i,e. kill em all. The great questions of the day will not be settled by means of speeches and majority decisions … but by iron and blood. Said Otto von. Bismarck, in the case of Israel its future is sealed, due to its small size, with Metropolitan Tel Aviv area 50 sq miles, where most of its population and industrial capacity are based, are vulnerable to a war of attrition waged by non state actors who in turn, when not manufactured by themselves their precision missiles and drones are supplied by Iran. This combination together with the opprobrium felt by 85% of the rest of humanity to Israel is more than enough to finish this apartheid supporting genocidal monstrosity, no matter how much money or arms its big stupid friend the US pumps into it.
Qasim Soleimani was arguably Iran’s most important military leader in modern history. He moved Iran’s overall strategy from a direct approach to an indirect one of proxy warfare using non-state actors. The non state actors of the ‘arc of resistance’ with its tactics of attrition will win in the end, it will probably take a little longer than most people would like. but it will be death by a thousand cuts for the murderous apartheid state.

  2. The 85% of humanity that feels disgust at Israel’s warmongering need to curb Israel’s desperate attempts to escalate this conflict. Stop the War.

    1. QB, when you’re there keep an eye out for Mr Yaxley. I have heard that some fatties, supposedly ex army are planning a fascist day out. Pub banter in Yorkshire. Old hands know this but you must stay safe.

  3. I don´t believe the death of Sinwar is going to alter the resolution of the Palestinians to keep on fighting. If anything is going to increase their resolution to fight to the death.
Over 2000 years ago Strabo described the way Iberian tribes waged war against the invading Romans but, Rome fail to understand.
It took over 200 years for Rome to conquer Iberia (Spain and Portugal) despite their superiority in numbers and arms it took them far longer than it took Rome to conquer Galia or Britain, because the Romans never understood that Iberian tribes instead of seeking peace with Rome were willing to fight to the dead and to die, when their leaders were assassinated.

  4. KernowDamo on Asa Winstanley’s raid:

Starmer’s SHAMELESS War on Pro Palestine Journalists

    1. “Let me start by saying, no one should mourn the death of Hamas leader, Yahya Sinwar,” said Starmer, opening his press conference in Berlin on Friday. . Starmer described Sinwar as having blood of both Israelis and Palestinians on his hands.

No-one can disagree with the forensic Leader and servant of the secret-state- unless they are willing to be Section11-ed, labelled a ‘terrorist’ and have their electronic equipment seized by the counter terrorism police.

Solidarity with Palestine, Asa Winstanley, Sarah Wilkinson, Richard Medhurst and all people who publicly demonstrate pro-Palestinian sentiments.

      1. Hearts with one purpose alone
        Through summer and winter seem
        Enchanted to a stone
        Minute by minute they live:
The stone’s in the midst of all.
        Too long a sacrifice
Can make a stone of the heart.
        We know their dream; enough
        To know they dreamed and are dead;
        The fools, the fools
They have left us our martyred dead
Gaza unfree wil never be at peace

    2. Perhaps we should wait for two weeks before making any comments or reaching any conclusions?

After all, we only live here. WTF do we know compared to those (allegedly) cowering in a safe space thousands of miles away?

Alternatively, we could continue to call out the evidence free infantile bullshit from such sources.

    3. Terrifying. We’re all in the cross hairs. British scribblers are like pussies.

  5. The lumpen Western & Israeli leaders seem to believe in ‘The Great Man of History Thesis’ but Karl Marx was right when he argued that movements make history.
And in any case as Harry Laws pointed out, the late Hezbollah Leader knew he was a target so they have trained 200 cadres, each one of them ready to take over.
It’s all about stealing Gaza’s et al’s land, gas & oil & possibly building a new canal in The Levant – so in essence its all about profits and the West wants its share, all else is blather.
And Western arms profits (whose companies often donate to politicians) are booming eg in Germany Rhinemetal’s orders are up £46b in the last 6 months (FT).
So the stark reality is Western Leaders dehumanise themselves for said profits.
And they think they are superior, proposing a 2 state solution from thousands of miles away which gives Palestinians 2O% of their country back and even that would be under the supervision of the occupation force.
But we should listen to Palestinian intellectuals like H.Eid & the late Edward Said who called for One Multi-Ethnic Democratic State of Palestine with the Right of Palestinian Refugees to Return.
And Eid recently argued that “Palestinians needed a new grassroots approach.” (New Left Review Sidecar Blog).
Then a Free Palestine could exploit its own resources to care for its diverse citizens and build a new canal if it wishes to benefit world trade.

  6. “Terrorist” is a political label used by supporters of Israeli ethnic cleansing, starvation and genocide to suppress legitimate criticism. These supporters are also guilty of international war crimes and should be jailed, but our two-tier pigs are turning a blind eye.

    1. You are spot on Dave.

In the same vein, “Putin Puppet/Apologist” and similar variations is also a political label used by supporters of neo-Nazis and their Russophobic/Slavophobic Western oligarch sponsors who have openly and publicly declared the objective of breaking up Russia to steal the resources of the Eurasian Heartland; who pathetically attempt to suppress legitimate criticism of recorded war crimes against those of the ‘wrong’ ethnicity.

Picking and choosing to suit their warped convenience of when and where not to apply their opposition to the same general principles.

Such cheerleaders are also guilty of supporting international war crimes and should be held to account for their open support of fascism.

      1. ICC judges issue arrest warrants against Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and Maria Alekseyevna Lvova-Belova

        Press Release: 17 March 2023 |

Today, 17 March 2023, Pre-Trial Chamber II of the International Criminal Court (“ICC” or “the Court”) issued warrants of arrest for two individuals in the context of the situation in Ukraine: Mr Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and Ms Maria Alekseyevna Lvova-Belova.

Mr Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, born on 7 October 1952, President of the Russian Federation, is allegedly responsible for the war crime of unlawful deportation of population (children) and that of unlawful transfer of population (children) from occupied areas of Ukraine to the Russian Federation (under articles 8(2)(a)(vii) and 8(2)(b)(viii) of the Rome Statute). The crimes were allegedly committed in Ukrainian occupied territory at least from 24 February 2022. There are reasonable grounds to believe that Mr Putin bears individual criminal responsibility for the aforementioned crimes, (i) for having committed the acts directly, jointly with others and/or through others (article 25(3)(a) of the Rome Statute), and (ii) for his failure to exercise control properly over civilian and military subordinates who committed the acts, or allowed for their commission, and who were under his effective authority and control, pursuant to superior responsibility (article 28(b) of the Rome Statute).

      2. It’s interesting to compare and contrast how long it is taking for the ICC to issue the arrest warrants against Netanyahu et al given the evidence we are watching live on a daily basis with the short length of time it took to issue this arrest warrant on trumped-up charges for safely evacuating children from conflict zones who would now be dead or seriously injured if this had not been done.

You would almost think someone was leaning on the ICC and its officials. Threatening them and their families.

Again, I’ll put a £1,000 of my limited pension on the table that if someone evacuated children to safety from Gaza you, Billy, would be applauding it or at the very least be approving of it.

But thanks for making my point for me as to what a naive and guillible hypocrite you are, Billy.
