3 dead, 60+ injured in Hezbollah drone strike on Israeli military base

Israeli air defences fail to detect incoming drone targeting military training camp near Haifa

A Hezbollah drone attack has killed three Israeli military personnel and injured over sixty tonight at an army training base of the notorious Golani Brigade near Haifa. Wounded were evacuated in over fifty ambulances and in medivac helicopters:

Israeli air defences did not detect the drone, which fired missiles at troops before exploding. Some reports suggest a number of drones were used to occupy radar and anti-missile defences while the attack drone came in at low level. Unlike what has been seen in Gaza and Lebanon, rescue vehicles were not targeted in a follow-up.

Lebanese militia group Hezbollah released a statement claiming responsibility for the attack: “The Islamic Resistance carried out an operation on the evening of Sunday, October 13, 2024, launching a squadron of attack drones at a training camp of the Golani Brigade in Binyamina, south of Haifa… The Islamic Resistance will remain present and ready to defend our country and our proud, oppressed people, and will not hesitate to fulfill its duty in deterring the enemy.”

Israel has repeatedly used heavy bombs on civilian areas since mid-September, when it carried out two waves of terror bombings using booby-trapped pagers and radios across Lebanon, killing and maiming thousands of people, including children. The Golani Brigade, which has repeatedly been used in Israel’s operations against Gaza since its formation in 1948, was one of the most heavily hit during the Hamas raid in southern Israel in October 2023.
