Facebook removes Skwawkbox post that accurately shows Labour’s poor local election results

Discussing Labour’s vote collapse is ‘misleading’, apparently

Social media platform Facebook has removed a Skwawkbox post that accurately lists, then discussed, the collapse of Keir Starmer’s Labour in last Thursday’s by-elections. Supposedly, Facebook’s AI decided the article is ‘misleading’:

The removal comes with a warning the repeated ‘breaches’ can lead to more restrictions. Skwawkbox has submitted an appeal on the obvious grounds that the article is not remotely misleading. It’s far from the first time that Skwawkbox has been targeted, with restrictions withdrawn after appeal once an item has become ‘old news’ – and readers routinely report being unable to share, or even find, new articles.

Facebook – like Twitter – has long been on a trajectory of favouring right-wing accounts and articles over left-wing. It was exposed in 2020 using its algorithms to target left-wing sources while relaxing fact-checking standards on right-wing pages. While much of its censorship is AI-driven, it also uses human ‘fact-checkers’ with ties to hard-right groups and news outlets.

Social media that protect genuine free speech and dissent are urgently needed, but those who wish to be sure of finding the informing that Skwawkbox uncovers should subscribe to this site’s free mailing list and to the Skwawkbox Telegram channel.

  1. Accusations of ‘breaches’ against effective journalism and then removing your articles, Facebook is in its own little doublespeak reality-chamber. Steve, maybe it’s time to take SKWAWKBOX off Facebook entirely?

    1. After the us of ‘murica, farcebook is directly responsible for the world’s ills.

In fact, because its infiltrated just about every society on earth, it’s likely more so.

And that zuckeburg’s just horrible. Best description I heard about him was that he looks like the one in films that’s been bitten by the zombie but isn’t telling everyone.

And don’t get me started on the space karen, musk. Just what is it with these weirdos?

Mind you, half the people that subscribe to their shite are no better.

  2. Typo alert Steve:
” Jewish” not “Jews” in the second to last para.
Skwawkbox will be around long after facebook has been forgotten.

  3. My posts are being removed quite often usually when I post anything anti Starmer. Some SKWAWKBOX articles don’t get through at all. It is getting worse it’s as if there is someone is watching me. Even an item I tried to sell was removed.
I post for Gaza and I’ve been put onto warnings. It’s outrageous. A friend who posted about Gaza was removed completely. What is happening first I was suspended by Labour for reposting a Jeremy Corbyn post and again supporting Palestine I was told I could stay if I didn’t reoffend now this. Free Speech does not exist.

  4. Hi there is an edit required in two places in the sentences in two paragraphs towards the end – informing should be information and hard right groups Jews — I think you mean hard right Jewish groups. I find this disturbing but don’t use my FB account much these days. AI may have honed in because it is set up to filter Skwawkbox itself or the word fascist. The ONLY thing to do is to request a meeting – demonstrate outside their offices, call on supporters to bombard them with complaints and finally to remove personal FB altogether

    1. No, it was meant to say ‘news’, not either ‘Jews’ or ‘Jewish’.

  5. “John Kerry, just last week at the World Economic Forum, so clearly blurting out the truth: “Our First Amendment stands as a major block to our ability to be able to hammer [disinformation] out of existence”.

Translated: Governing is all about narrative control. Kerry articulates the ‘International Order’s’ solution to the unwelcome phenomenon of an uncontrolled populism and of a potential leader who speaks for the people: Simply, ‘freedom to speak’ is unacceptable to the prescriptions agreed by the ‘inter-agency’ – the institutionalised distillation of the ‘International Order’.”

As previously noted on another thread on this site, Kerry is not alone. Hilary Clinton is saying much the same and is intent on repealing Sections of the US Communications Act to enforce elite narrative control in order to impose The Official Narrative.

The EU, meanwhile, is already ahead of the curve with its Digital legislation. The UK, however, with an unwritten Constitution that enables the establishment Oligarchy the flexibility to act like Humpty Dumpty in terms of what anything means, have the best of all worlds in this regard.

    Crooke, again:

“The structural problem, essayist Aurelien writes is not simply that the western professional class holds to an ideology – one that is the opposite to how ordinary people experience the world. That certainly is one aspect. But the bigger problem lies rather, with a technocratic conception of politics that is not ‘about’ anything. It is not really politics at all (as Tony Blair once said), but is nihilistic and absent of moral considerations.

Having no real culture of its own, the western professional class views religion as outdated and sees history as dangerous since it contains components that can be misused by ‘extremists’. It prefers therefore not to know history.

This produces the mixture of the conviction of superiority, yet deep insecurity, which typifies western leadership. The ignorance and fear of events and ideas that fall outside the confines of their rigid zeitgeist, they perceive, almost invariably, as innately inimical to their interests. And rather than seek to discuss and understand, that which is outside their capabilities, they use disparagement and character assassination instead to remove the nuisance.”

We have an out of touch elite, along with associated hangers on and cheerleaders, across the entire Collective Worst that is intent not only on operating to its own made up fantasy reality but also on imposing that reality, way of doing everything, and how to look at the world, on the rest of humanity.

    TINA on steroids.

A single monoculture which brooks no contradiction, no analysis, no critique. Just mindless compliance or permanent outlawing (in the traditional sense of the term) of any dissent.

  6. Big Tech (Fbook, Google, Amazon, BlackRock, etc) is replacing shops, banks, libraries and newspapers and delivering TECHNO-FEUDALISM?
    Veroufakis thinks so.

  7. Truths a dog he should be whipped out to kennel while the lady branch can sit by the fireside and stink.
