124-14 in favour of resolution – Starmer government shamefully abstains

The United Nations General Assembly has today voted overwhelmingly for Israel to immediately end its occupation of Palestinian territory and withdraw all its forces and settlements – and for all UN member states to end any trade with Israel that might in any way support or strengthen the occupation.
To its shame, Keir Starmer’s government was one of forty-three to abstain on the resolution – making an even bigger mockery of its feeble posturing on Israel’s genocide and war crimes – while the US voted against alongside Israel and a handful of tiny nations beholden to US aid.
The resolution was co-sponsored by Turkey and more than fifty other member states and the resolution declares Israel’s cccupation of Palestinian Territories is illegal under international law, referring to decisions from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the UN Security Council.
While the resolution is non-binding, it is a clear statement of the view that the vast majority of the world takes of Israel’s decades-long crimes against the Palestinian people and of the complicity of the US and UK in Israel’s criminality and genocide.

Taking into account past precedent, it cannot be too long before the Israeli Zionist State declares the UN a terrorist entity and the batteries of cell phone devices, laptops, computers and vehicles of diplomats and staff of one hundred and twenty-four Countries start exploding and/or catching fire – along with those of the domestic politicians of those States.
A shameful Abstention and typical of Starmer.
