So-called ‘Labour against antisemitism’ tries to pressure venue to cancel Unite4Palestine event

Right-wing pressure group’s spokesperson tries to whip up anti-Gaza prejudice

Anti-genocide campaigners, left, fanatical pro-Israel march, right

A spokesperson for the notorious right-wing, pro-Israel group that calls itself ‘Labour against antisemitism’ (LAAS) has tried to pressure a Brighton venue and councillors into cancelling a meeting to be held this Sunday by anti-genocide campaigners in the Unite union.

Following the usual pattern of pro-Israel propagandists, Fiona Sharpe posted on X smearing the organisers of the pro-peace meeting as a ‘bunch of anti-Jewish racists’ and Hamas supporters and demanding that the venue ‘explain why you would give those who are known to spread hate and antisemitism a space’ – and copied in right-wing Labour councillors:

One of the organisers of the event told Skwawkbox that this was an attempt to ‘bully’ the venue owners and councillors into cancelling the booking and described Sharpe’s message as a ‘hateful’ pro-genocide attack on union members and on democracy:

She wants to bully the councillors and community centre at which we’re holding the meeting to get it cancelled.  This is a hateful attack on trade unionists and on democracy, to say nothing of a desperate attempt to defend the genocide.

Sharpe’s unpopular tweet drew a few replies from genocide supporters – including one who described anti-genocide campaigners as ‘nazis’. But it was also criticised by Jews and others who recognise that the right’s conflation of Israel with Jewish people – itself deeply antisemitic – puts UK Jewish communities at risk, and that the supporters of Israel are the ones really spreading hate:

Fiona Sharpe has denied that Israel is committing genocide and claims it is just defending itself – and she has condemned the International Court of Justice as a ‘vehicle to justify the delegitimisation of Israel’ for its judgment that Israel is ‘plausibly’ committing genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza.

She has also perpetuated the thoroughly discredited ‘Hamas rape’ narrative used by Israel to justify its slaughter of civilians, condemning UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres for not being fast enough to agree with it, and just this month repeated the claim that ‘Hamas’ killed 1200 people in its 7 October raid, even though Israeli media now freely admit that an ‘immense’ number of Israeli deaths that day were knowingly killed by their own military. Israel has now murdered as many as 200,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children.

Other leading LAAS figures have attacked and even threatened left-wing Jews in the UK who spoke out against the unfounded ‘Labour antisemitism’ smears, including renowned author Michael Rosen. One of the group’s founding signatories was kicked off Twitter for a stream of racist posts, including a comment that an orphaned child in Gaza was ‘better off without a mother’. The group has also been accused of serious data breaches in its misuse of Labour members’ personal information.

The Unite4Palestine public meeting takes place this Sunday at 6pm at Community Base in Brighton – at least, it does as long as the organisers and local council do not bow to bully tactics from right-wing supporters of a genocidal regime. The group has asked supporters to respond to Sharpe’s tweet to show the targets of the hard-right’s pressure what people really think.

  1. Wheres the ‘G’ in LAAS?

They’re gobshites, one and all. And so are zionists, especially those zionists without qualification.

  2. Asa Winstanley Lobby Watch 10 January 2020
A prominent Israel lobbyist in the UK has claimed credit for last month’s electoral defeat of the Labour Party led by Jeremy Corbyn.
“The beast is slain,” Joe Glasman delighted – Corbyn has been “slaughtered.”
He rejoiced that “we defeated him” in the election. “They tried to kill us,” he ranted, but “we won.”
Glasman leads the “political investigations team” at the Campaign Against Antisemitism, or CAA – an influential anti-Palestinian lobby group.
He made his comments in a bizarre video rant addressed to his team of supporters that he posted online during the holiday break.

    1. Ohhhh…. So THAT’S the reason Corbyn lost the election?

Gee, thanks pal…but wasn’t it because people didn’t like him – despite half a million or more voting labour in ’19 than did last month?

So what’s the point of your post? A congratulatory? A thank you? You’ve never once had a good word for Corbyn, so it simply CANNOT be a regretful reflection of who and what was responsible for Corbyn’s ousting.

Oh! Silly me – You voted for him, TWICE!!!

Despite not being a socialist – ever.

And yet you’ve repeatedly point-blank refused to proffer what policy(ies) keef reneged on offered that made YOU vote for The best of a bad bunch.

And since he shithoused his way onto #10, you haven’t defended a single instance of the abject shithousery you were repeatedly told he’d come up with.

Away and shite, you backsliding bore.

      1. Toffee – Do you feel like a superhero now that you’ve had a little rant?

The purpose of my post was obviously to remind people how duplicitous the Israeli Lobby are.

      2. And they are all anti-corbyn, anti-socialist smarmerists…As are you.

        See the pattern?

      3. “The purpose of my post was obviously to remind people how duplicitous the Israeli Lobby are.”

When in fact all your post did was remind people how duplicitous you are, Billy.

      4. The purpose of my post was obviously to remind people how duplicitous the Israeli Lobby are.

Then why not ‘remind people’ of Starmer & co’s duplicity?

Since you never do, that makes you no less duplicitous.

      5. Can you need read, Billy?

“all your post did was remind people how duplicitous you are, Billy.”

Do try and keep up at the back there lad.

  3. “They tried to kill us…but we won”

Something you never tire of telling us about keef. Something you told us that we’d be stupid not to vote for him.

Well we didn’t. YOU, however, DID.

And since he ‘won’ he’s proved everyone’s forecasts about him, no less than entirely correct.

And you denied them all, pre-election.

But you haven’t defended him once since July 5th.

So take your complaints about duplicity and CRAM ‘EM.

      1. Well we didn’t. YOU, however, DID. 🤣

…………and Keir is now the PM 😉

      2. ……and we have not even considered the issue of what Herr Starmer is PM for when in policy terms he is actually operating to and applying the same policy script as the Government he has allegedly replaced.

Pledging, as Toffee has intimated, to do exactly the same as the Party they have supposedly defeated (albeit on around only one fifth of the eligible voters).

When he very clearly has no other plan than to copy the failed policies of those of the previous fellow clowns – which you were consistently informed before the election, Billy – just what was the point of Herr Starmer becoming PM and the LP forming a Government?

Have you a sensible grown up answer, little boy?

      3. …………and Keir is now the PM 😉

Hes the PM of the UK.

So what did YOU win, except the worthless bragging rights that you were one of the minority that voted for the winning side?

      4. Toffee – So what did YOU win, …………

A better future for my daughter. You and you and and the other pretend lefties had SFA to offer the electorate

      5. What has your daughter done to upset you, Billy? Neo-liberalism has no future.

The only future you’ve offered her – along with the rest of us – is that of a serf.

      6. Dave – Don’t be silly.,🤨. It is self evident that you and your comrades have nothing credible to offert the electorate.

      7. Toffee – “At who’s expense?”

Surely you don’t begrudge teachers receiving a reasonable wage.

      8. Only in the unreality bubble of your worthless evidence free subjective opinion, Billy.

Back in the real world, the ideas and policies of what you are touting as the only viable alternative are rapidly approaching the dustbin of history.

      9. And the rest of the populace beyond the teaching profession, Billy?

Those of us on fixed incomes? Those in the gig economy? The Self-employed.? Small businesses? Those on low wages? etc. With prices of food, energy, water, transport and everything else increasing beyond the capacity of most people to afford?

You know, the actual majority of the populace beyond a few outliers in the PMC?

How many pensioners are you willing to tolerate freezing this winter? Or kids going to school hungry?

That’s your “realistic” alternative, is it. Pissing down other people’s backs and telling them it’s raining from your (alleged) comfortable safe haven away from this nightmare that you clearly enjoy imposing others as one of the minority 20% who voted for this Continuity Conservatism to be imposed on the 80% majority.

  4. The only future you’ve offered her – along with the rest of us – is that of a serf.

Unless, of course, the daughter is already well-to-do.

Haven’t you got a lad living in blighty too, wee fella? I’m sure you’ve mentioned him before.

    1. Toffee – “Unless, of course, the daughter is already well-to-do.”

Our daughter is very fortunate to be financially secure but I very much doubt that she would describe herself as “well to do”.

      1. Financially secure is it?

There’s a teacher lives across the road from me, has been in the job 20+ years who’s far from it. He’s not alone

Millions more are financially insecure, and will remain financially insecure, or worse still, will be worse off at the end of this parliament; seeing keef has ZERO plans and ZERO intent to deviate from toerag capitalist, corporate/banker/wealth-protecting. fiscal policy.

Did you think about them when you cast your EX-pat vote – one you really shouldn’t be entitled to?

Nah, just your already financially secure offspring, who has far less to worry about than those millions of less fortunate.

      2. Toffee – Oh FFS give it a rest, all you have to offer is empty rhetoric.

      3. Other people’s issues and problems arising from the failed and rapidly collapsing paradigm you are clearly happy to impose on others is “empty rhetoric” is it, Billy.

Very easy to spout off like that from the safety of distance. Because you certainly would not last long trying to give this arrogant and ignorant verbal two fingered salute face to face.

  5. Whoops I made an error in previous attempted comment – please do not make it visible .. duh ..
I will correct it in next comment. duh again ..

  6. Well apparently Starmer has INCREASED his popularity ..

But “fine words butter no parsnips ..”
and the number of children in poverty has increased so that 30% of UK
    children are in poverty now.

Families with three or more children in poverty need help NOW – this minute –
their children cannot wait until we reach the mythical economic growth ..

    1. Apparently, HollbyFanMW, pointing out that the number of children in poverty has increased to 30% (which is merely a national average and is far higher in many regions of the UK) is “empty rhetoric”.

Shame on you for upsetting those self anointed denizens of the comfortable classes and their ignorant and arrogent sycophants like Billy no mates who claim to ‘know’ what’s good for the rest of us plebs/deplorables.

  7. So yet again its ok for labour racists to call muslims and anyone else standing against their genocide terrorists.

  8. Families with three or more children in poverty need help NOW – this minute –
their children cannot wait until we reach the mythical economic growth

    But they don’t matter, holbyfan.

financially secure teachers can use their own wealth to buy their pupils’ lunches

    https://www.headteacher-update.com/content/news/eight-in-10-primary-teachers-are-buying-items-for-pupils-in-need/#:~:text=Concerningly%2C%2079%25%20of%20the%20primary,to%20meet%20pupils'%20pastoral%20needs.

  9. Surely you don’t begrudge teachers receiving a reasonable wage.

Far from it. I don’t begrudge any occupation receiving a reasonable wage.

I expect that wage to be commensurate across ALL sectors and ALL levels within those respective sectors.

And I expect better conditions for those (especially blue-collar) workers to be able to carry out their duties satisfactorily.

(Don’t even bother to come back to me with your green paper bollocks).

And then there’s the tax inequalities that go with it.

Something reeves – like every chancellor since the 70s – is loath to reform.

But YOU said they’re not toerags. Yet post-election, you’ve failed/refused to defend a single one of their openly continuity-toerag policies.

Despite preaching to each – every one of us that we’d be allowing the toerags another term if we DIDN’T vote smarmerist labour.

    1. Toffee – “I expect that wage to be commensurate across ALL sectors and ALL levels within those respective sectors. “

Which is why, starting with the Care Sector, Labour are going to introduce sector-wide pay and conditions negotiations

      1. They gonna cap banker’s bonuses?
        They gonna tax the corporates?
They gonna bring CGT in line with income tax?
        They gonna reduce VAT?

Nope. And it’ll NEVER get to the point where they** can afford it, so pay increases won’t go across the board.

So as usual, it’ll be the blue collar paying for the blue collar payrises.

We’ve had fifteen fucking years plus of this shit, and keef doesn’t intend to change a goddamn thing. In fact – and make NO mistake about it- he and his cabal are gonna bring back work-for-your-dole, and subsidise the corporates even further.

The ‘working Joe’s and Joannes’ are well and truly fucked. And YOU enabled it.

But at least your daughter has a better future, eh? And if not, Im sure there’s a room set aside for her in your Caribbean bolt-hole. Who knows, she may be even headhunted by the local schools.

        **As if it’stheir money.

      2. Oh dear!

“Which is why, starting with the Care Sector, Labour are going to introduce sector-wide pay and conditions negotiations.”

        Ah, bless!

        Another attempt at reviving the old Whitley/Joint Industrial Council model;

        https://wlv.openrepository.com/bitstream/handle/2436/620878/Adaptation%20Evolution%20and%20Survival%20LH%20Whyeda%20UK.%20wire.rg.pdf;jsessionid=D27773C987ED33556F6666AE54EF8CC4?sequence=1

Which, perusal of the above link reveals, essentially died a death in every practical sense as a result of the imposition of the voodoo neoliberal economic model which totally destroyed the foundation blocks of the public service ethos.

One wonders not just whether the Constitution, structure and process, of this old wine in new bottles approach will be based on that of the original Whitley Constitution but also how it will have any workable and practical efficacy whatsoever unless Herr Starmer is prepared to jettison in its entirety the one true faith of the failed neoliberal economic thinking?

As there is every sign that Herr Starmer and the rest of the twenty per cent Junta have the exact opposite intention, you are going to have to do better than this load of old bollocks, Billy.

  10. Toffee – Oh FFS give it a rest

    Tell you what, bollocks…

I’ll give it a rest WHEN I GET A FUCKING REST

Instead of being on call twenty-four-fucking-seven for about £140 per week.

Something which has given me atrial fibrillation and high blood pressure, left me on medication for the rest of my days, and taken away 95% of my social life.

I’ll give it a rest when the threat of being sent out to work for my dole the second my arl fella drops (God forbid that’s not for a good while yet), despite my health problems.

And when the dwp aren’t threatening me with all sorts of sanctions penalties sentences and criminal records if I fail to give them chapter-and-bastard-verse about most aspects of our meagre existences.

I’llgive it a rest when >90% the people around me aren’t fighting their own battles with state-imposed austerity.

When people who have next to fuck-all aren’t persecuted, but given the help they need just to get by.

…But to those fuckers in Westminster, people like me ought to celebrate the opening of foodbanks in our areas. Not that they put their hands on their pockets and buy a pallet of stuff (they could ALL afford to).

But no – they won’t be seen dead near one unless it’s for a photo op. They don’t even pay their full whack in tax dues for absolute fucks sake.

I’ll give it a rest when nonces are banged up for the full term, instead of being free to roam the streets. Same with drug dealers, wife beaters and the general scum of the earth.

When the kids have somewhere to go and something to do. When I was a lad, mothers used to be happy to stay at home, and fathers earned enough to make sure there was enough food on the table, their kids were clothed, and could even afford the odd weekend away.

The parks were well maintained – full of flowers and plants, tidy(ish) and people spoke to each other.

Nowadays the parks and playing fields that haven’t been sold off are full of needles, vape and laughing gas. canisters, broken bottles and empty beer cans. The kids want to kick your head in (see Leicester last Sunday) and there’s no fucking hope of an ambulance coming within half an hour, nevermind the old bill turning up.

So when these problems are fixed, THEN – AND ONLY THEN ..

Will I give it a rest

Because there’s no fucking hope of keef putting things right.

Got that? Now shut your fucking mouth, you non-dom nonce case.

    1. Not forgetting the proviso of sycophantic waz ends ceasing their ignorant and arrogant Marie Antoinette tribute act from an (alleged) safe and comfortable distance trying to lecture us all about how fortunate we are under their plastic hero and his unworkable Continuity Conservative policies.

I’d give it a rest, Billy, before someone seeks you out to teach you the lesson you need to be taught.
