Israel fanatic and host of other right-wing Labour MPs can’t wait to get out before statement on Grenfell inquiry findings about government and corporate guilt
Today the Commons saw the disgraceful sight of dozens of right-wing MPs scurrying out of the Chamber at the end of Prime Ministers Questions before Keir Starmer gave his statement about the report released today by the Grenfell Tower inquiry – and right-wing hardliner and Israel fanatic Luke Akehurst, only an MP for two months, was one of the fastest to scuttle out.
Starmer – who last year accepted hospitality worth thousands of pounds from the firm behind the lethal cladding that killed at least seventy-two people in the deadly 2017 blaze – had to respond to the inquiry’s findings of corporate and government guilt in the reckless and greed-driven slaughter.
But Akehurst – and many others – didn’t hear it, as they had disappeared despite the statement being on the Commons agenda. So many others, that even centrist political commentator Robert Peston was shocked:
The political class can’t help showing its contempt for the lives and deaths of ordinary people, especially those with brown, black or yellow skin.
