Video: US union boss tells pension fund ‘No investments supporting the Gaza genocide’

As Israel’s economy collapses, Jimmy Williams of IUPAT says union has told its international pension fund no funding of Israel’s slaughter and destruction in Gaza

Jimmy Williams Jr, president of the International Painters and Allied Trades Union (IUPAT), has said in a speech to union members that IUPAT has told its international pension fund managers to make sure none of its investments are going to support the “genocide in Gaza”:

IUPAT is the union for painters, glaziers, wall and floor finishes and other building-finishing trades in the US and Canada. Its pension fund receives around US$ 330m in new contributions from union members every year.

The IUPAT announcement puts to shame many union leaders in the UK, who have cosied up to ‘Zionist without qualification’ Keir Starmer and – for example in the case of Unite’s Sharon Graham – have often actively tried to suppress pro-Palestine activism and protest by union members.

Williams’s announcement comes as Israeli newspaper Haaretz features accounts of Israeli firms who are now unable to function because ‘funding has dried up’:

Haaretz also ran analysis by Israeli army general Yitzhak Brik, who believes that Israel could ‘collapse within a year’ if it continues its ‘attrition’ of its assault on Gaza:

Israel’s third largest port, Eilat, has already gone bankrupt because of the impact of Yemen’s blockade of Israel-bound shipping. Israel’s genocide has murdered as many as 200,000 Palestinians in Gaza, mostly women and children, along with almost seven hundred in the West Bank, and its siege of Gaza is imposing famine and disease on two million civilians. Despite the economic consequences, Israel has now mounted an invasion of the West Bank in an evident attempt to drive out its Palestinian inhabitants.

    1. ““That F-35 is going to Israel, it’s going to continue going to Israel, no matter what Turkey or the UK or any other country has to do with it.

“You’d hate to see a situation where the UK is no longer a partner on the F-35 project or other advanced platforms because of a very ill-advised arms embargo against Israel. ”

      The F-35!

      Seriously?

The most expensive flying white elephant in military history?

That is really the Mafia State’s stick?

That’s a gold-plated get out clause which would result in the UK saving a shed load of money.

Quick, somebody snatch their hands off before they change their minds and tell the economic illiterate Reeves the good news that the mythical non-existent black hole of her imagination has been covered.

Not that this bunch of wass ends promoted to Government above their abilities would ever do anything other than look such a gift horse in the mouth by folding to these not so subtle threats from their fellow terrorists in the beltway.

  2. Yep.

Shoehorned in an excellent candidate, alright – a liar of a slum landlord, who they (smarmerite labour) arbitrarily dismissed sexual assault allegations against (despite independent advice not to) in order to supplant (in extremely questionable circumstances) an MP whose ‘crime’ was to have visited a picket line.

Have you been on to weasley screeching for his take, @skwawky?

I’d like to hear him defend athwal from these latest allegations against him. Let’s hear the lego-headed scream queen bull athwal up, now.

  3. Skwawkbox can you help me, I want to arrange ships to take pensioners to support Gazans. I am 71 years old my life has been good but I cannot stand by and watch innocents dying. I am willing to sacrifice my life for the Palestinian people. I think the majority of pensioners across Europe will support this and will join the cause. We need ships capable of transporting millions to Palestine to save the population.

  4. They can keep Trident as well
The Yanks are signed up to the Convention, the only sanctions on offer for those complicit will be decided in the Hague
As for white elephants, every major project, civil or military has failure built into it, its cost plus all the way
The fuckers would make the real mafia blush

  5. BDS is redundant, Israel has already bankrupted themselves, they don’t have a pot to piss in
The axis of resistance know this and will continue their war of attrition

    1. As the Israeli publication Haaratz notes……

      https://archive.is/i5BMO

…the Israeli economy is tanking across multiple fronts.

A forerunner for the unworkable, failed, and collapsing neo-liberal economic paradigm of the Collective West……..

      1. …….as described and detailed in this recent interview with Michael Hudson:

“The mainstream Western view thinks of the past as being like today’s world, depicting us as the heirs of Greece and Rome. If that really remains our genetic political and social heritage, the West will retain the same dynamic that led to Rome’s decline and fall. What happened was that Greece and Rome – that is, Western civilization – took the Near Eastern financial innovations out of context, without having rulers empowered to cancel personal debts, and prevent oligarchies from taking over the land and monopolizing it to bring on the Dark Age.

Most people think the Greeks and Romans were democracies. But they only had short moves toward some transitory democratic voting forms. When Aristotle led a study of the various Greek constitutions, he said that they all called themselves democracies but were really oligarchies. The rhetoric and euphemistic vocabulary they used has changed fundamentally. You have to look at this transformative process. Today’s challenge is not simply to move forward along our present trajectory, but to realize a need for self-transformation into a new trajectory of social and economic evolution.

The alternative is self-destruction. What kind of world are we going to create? This is not a future that can be predicted with certainty. Will the West let itself be polarized and end up like the Roman Empire did? Or will Europe realize that it has made a mistake and rejoin the rest of Eurasia? And will Asia indeed free itself from the Western-sponsored neoliberalism that has deindustrialized the NATO world? Will the BRICS and Global majority progress with socialism, or regress with the West’s libertarian free-market characteristics?”
