Video: ex-cop tells inquiry under oath that security services’ job is to smear people

Live broadcast goes off-air within moments of confession

A former undercover police officer has told the undercover policing inquiry – under oath and on camera – that it was the job of the security services to smear people, while the police just gather evidence. The admission – which Trevor Morris quickly said he shouldn’t have said, brought a bemused reaction from the barrister questioning him:

The live feed of the inquiry session went offline almost immediately after that – but the transcript of the event still contains the admission at the time of writing.

As Irish left-winger Brenda Gough observed, the admission is surprising only for its honesty. British intelligence services have a grim record of colluding in criminality of the worst kind:

  1. As it was taken off air immediately, one must ask who is controlling the video broadcast. It isn’t some TV technician!

  2. Not remotely suprised. No doubt hiding behind ‘issues of national security’.

Wonder if he was asked (off-air) if ‘evidence’ is fabricated gathered to lend credence to those smears…

  3. Great Reporting Skwawkie. What was that about ‘colluding with criminality of the worst kind’?

Declassified UK’s mission to investigate ‘Britain’s military and intelligence agencies, its most powerful corporations and its impact on human rights and the environment’ – with support of people as diverse as Hilary Wainwright, Lowkey, Andrew Feinstein, Peter Oborne, Kate Hudson, Paul Rogers, Laura Pidcock, Yanis Veroufakes – has caused it uncover many things that The Right Honourable Sir Keir Starmer. KCB KC MP, servant of the security state would rather it hadn’t. Here’s a starter for ten:

  4. Yes, it is interesting that anyone critiquing the establishment is almost immediately smeared as a stooge of the Russians or puppet of Elon Musk.
Yet look at the list of members interests and right up to Starmer himself we have people taking money from Israels lobby and/or the privatised health industry – see Trevor Chinn for example.
Happening so often – along with a-S smears – that in a ‘cry wolf manner’ these have just about lost their potency.
