British regime’s complicity continues with another attempt to negate Palestinian lives and rights

Judges at the International Criminal Court (ICC) have ruled that UK lawyers can submit legal arguments to the Court attempting to block ICC prosecutor Karim Khan’s request for arrest warrants for Israel’s PM Benjamin Netanyahu and its defence minister Yoav Gallant for their crimes against Palestinians in Gaza.
The UK’s lawyers are trying to argue that Palestinians have no jurisdiction over Israeli nationals and are therefore unable to ask the ICC to prosecute. The argument appears specious on the face of it – Palestine has been a member of the ICC since 2015 and the Court has jurisdiction for crimes committed on all Palestinian territory since June 2014. However, the US and UK are applying relentless political pressure to the court – with the US Congress voting for sanctions against the ICC and its personnel because they dare even consider holding Israel accountable for its war crimes and mass murder of as many as 100,000 Palestinian civilians and maiming of twice as many. The Court must hold firm – and issue the warrants without delay, with warrants for complicit UK figures following promptly.
