Video: councillor quits Labour in tears over Gaza slaughter

Kirklees councillor Ammar Anwar resigns during council meeting as Labour mayor sits stony-faced – but party panicking behind scenes after reports of further impending resignations

Kirklees councillor Ammar Anwar resigned from the Labour party last night, delivering his tearful resignation speech to a council meeting as senior Labour figures, including the mayor, sat stony-faced.

Labour’s control of the council is now in danger. Nineteen councillors had already issued a statement rejecting Starmer’s support for Israel’s war crimes against Palestinians and Anwar’s resignation is thought to be just the first of a string of councillors quitting, triggering panic among Labour officials who are said to be meeting behind the scenes to try to stem the tide.

As Taj Ali, who published video of Anwar’s speech, pointed out, Labour has already lost control of four councils – Burnley, Oxford, Norwich and Hastings – because of the complicity of Starmer and his front-bench cohort for Israel’s genocide, forced transfer and crimes against humanity:

While Anwar was comforted by a colleague at the end of his speech, the last few seconds of the clip shows hard-faced Labour figures

  1. Always remember Ammar, you did not leave the Kirklees Labour Group, it left you.
“The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything”, Albert Einstein.

Congratulations and best wishes Cllr Ammar Anwar.

  2. Time for Starmer to pay back all the money he has received for being Leader of the Opposition.

    1. Absolutely, Tony.

Fraud by false representation. And obtaining pecuniary advantage by deception.

  3. Important reminder:
Nuclear Armageddon: How Close Are We? is a BBC documentary which will be shown tonight at 9.00 pm on BBC2.

It is very important that people understand the danger and act to remove it.

    Thank you.

    1. Another important TV reminder.

      Keir Starmer: Up Close

In the first of two programmes about the leaders of the UK’s two largest political parties – the men most likely to be Prime Minister after a probable election later this year, Anushka Asthana follows Labour’s Keir Starmer. Asthana finds out what drives him, what his vision for Britain is and what keeps him awake at night

      1. I take that normal human beings have to supply their own bucket.

  4. So far the vast majority of people representing Labour nationally and locally and on internal committees have not resigned.Time they did so en masse.
If they have any decency, respect for themselves or respect for human life they would immediately disassociate themselves with the Zionist leadership who defend Israels right to do whatever it likes to Palestinians (up to and including the murder of children )in the name of “self defence”
No matter what war crime the Israelis commit – bombing schools, hospitals, ambulances and refugee camps, summary executions, mass round ups of innocent civilians, use of chemical weapons , assassination of journalists and medical staff etc etc our elected representatives are silent – most of them are Friends of Israel unconditionally some by convictions, others because they have been bought and paid for
We even had the disgusting display of some of them visiting Israel to show solidarity with the butchers of Tel Aviv.
Shame on the lot of them. They pay lip service to human rights while they condon Israeli massacres. This will be remembered at the ballot box but I have no doubt that they will be looked after and they will be given cushy well paid jobs in the media or in Zionist enterprises where they can continue to work for the Zionist/ Israeli lobby.

  5. Herr Flick
Just watched the Tonight programme on the Fuhrer
It’s worse than I thought, he isn’t even very good at doing nothing, not committing to something, keeping a clean sheet
He will say and do anything to get into power but then he forgets what’s he’s said and done, until he is reminded
    It’s patently absurd
Theresa May’s campaign fell apart when she was caught out on her Social Care policy, the Fuhrer will simply collapse on pretty much everything and anything, he doesn’t have a leg to stand on, there’s precisely nothing holding him up, a balloon waiting to be pricked
