Centre for UN studies director reports ‘serious moves’ to establish intervention force

‘Serious moves’ are underway at the United Nations to create an Arab-led UN peacekeeping force to intervene in Israel’s relentless, genocidal bombing of Gazan civilians, according to a specialist UN-watcher.
Mark Seddon, director of Buckingham University’s Centre for UN Studies, has reported the development on his social media this afternoon, saying:
Since the US is unable or unwilling to reign in its client state, Israel, there are now serious moves at the UN, I gather, to put together an international Arab led force under UN auspices for Gaza. This further strengthens the need for a ceasefire.
Given the horrific toll of death, injury and trauma already inflicted on Gaza – half of whose population is made up of children – along with Israel’s willingness to kill hundreds to get at one Hamas official the IDF isn’t even sure is there and the refusal of UK and US politicians even to condemn it, it is an urgently needed move. But in the light of Israel’s clear contempt for international law, its reported plan to clear Gaza for Israeli settlement and its killing of at least 59 UN relief agency personnel so far, there is no guarantee that even the presence of UN-badged troops in Gaza would be enough to halt its genocidal assault.
