Video/images: thousands flood Liverpool to demand peace for Gaza

Mass demonstration, loud but peaceful, marches to demand peace and justice for Palestinians

Thousands have flooded Liverpool city centre in a mass show of solidarity with oppressed Palestinians. The demo was loud but peaceful, filling Bold Street and Church Street, before gathering to hear speakers, including the city’s independent council group leader Alan Gibbons, demanding a ceasefire now, justice for Palestinians – and an end to the collusion of the UK political and media Establishment in the oppression, apartheid and occupation.

As the march reached its Derby Square destination, the square quickly filled but the column of protesters kept coming:

Protesters defy the government’s ban on calls for freedom for Palestine

Other speakers included Chantelle Lunt, who defied Labour’s ban on showing support for Palestine, Jewish Wirral Green councillor and Birkenhead parliamentary candidate Jo Bird, Amina Atiq, Sheila Coleman, Helen Marks, Greg Dropkin and a Palestinian student.

Solidarity against the murder of any civilians – and with oppressed Palestinians. End the slaughter in Gaza now.
