Unite leadership hopeful sees Skwawkbox article on opponents’ smear that he wants to disband Community section – and speaks straight to members
Unite leadership candidate Howard Beckett has issued a video speaking directly to members of the union’s Community section to bury smears by his opponents who have been spreading rumours that he wants to disband it.
Beckett saw an article on Skwawkbox showing that long before the contest opened to succeed Len McCluskey as Unite’s general secretary Beckett was committed to building ‘Community’ and was clear in underlining its importance, but he wanted to address the smears head-on and tell members about his plans for the union’s unique section for unwaged people – that he played a key role in creating:
As the saying goes, a lie goes round the world while the truth is pulling its boots on. Well, this is the truth to counter the smear so spread the word.
