Jewish Labour Movement (JLM) members were informed by email last night that the organisation has called in police to investigate its finances, according to the Jewish Chronicle and Jewish News. An email from the group’s national secretary told members,
to ensure full transparency, openness and to protect the integrity of the movement, we have referred certain internal financial matters to the police for investigation
but did not elaborate on the nature of the ‘internal financial matters’.
It is unclear whether the move is connected to the recent resignation of its chair, Jeremy Newmark to fight ‘historical allegations’ of financial impropriety, which Mr Newmark has denied.
A JLM statement issued at the time of his resignation stated that:
The NEC wish to make it clear that there are no allegations whatsoever against Jeremy that relate to the Jewish Labour Movement. Our national officers have full oversight of all processes. We are confident that they are robust.
