Labour First: ‘independent’ slate will ‘determine control’ of NEC

Right-wing Labour factions Progress and Labour First continue to insist that the candidates they are backing for the vital three additional places on Labour’s National Executive Committee (NEC ) – Eddie Izzard, Gurinder Singh Josan and Johanna Baxter – are ‘independent’ and do not constitute a ‘slate’, in spite of revelations that the groups control the website for the trio and that Labour First are funding Facebook ads for them.

Labour First’s Facebook page also contains a statement by the group about the three candidates – and a post there also suggests that there is more to the situation than support for three independents:

Logically, three genuinely independent candidates would not ‘determine control’ of anything – they’d be doing their own, independent thing.

The SKWAWKBOX contacted Luke Akehurst of Labour First for comment. He responded:

will “determine control” in the sense of whether Momentum will have a majority or not. There isn’t a solid block of votes on the non-Momentum side as it includes big unions that sometimes vote with the left and sometimes don’t.

The SKWAWKBOX recommends all Labour members to vote for all three of the grassroots-left slate – Yasmine Dar, Rachel Garnham and Jon Lansman – to ensure an NEC that is solidly and reliably behind Jeremy Corbyn’s vision for the party and the wishes of the vast majority of its membership.

  2. Here’s a little poem wot I wrote when Crumbs for working people LA stood for the NEC:
LUKE THE NUKE’S VERY LAST STAND.
    THE NEO-LIBERAL BOOT LICKER.
WHO THREW HIS RATTLE FROM THE PRAM.
WITH A WHIMP, A BUMP AND FLICKER.
THE GREATEST MIND IN THE WESTERN WORLD.
    YET TO BE DISCOVERED.
THEN HE PACKED HIS BAGS WITH HIS GLAD RAGS.
AND WE WONDERED WHY HE BOTHERED.
NOW GO AND READ SOME LEFT WING BOOKS!

I WOULD BET, YOU DIDN’T, YOU HAD TO BORROW!
JUST LIKE THE REST OF US, WHO COULD AFFORD THE PRICES, UNLIKE THE YOUNGSTERS AND THE JUST ABOUT MANAGING, NOT COUNTING THOSE WHO CAN’T MANAGE, OF THIS THE 21st CENTURY!
UNDER THIS TORYISM FOR THE FEW WHO PAYOUT HUGE SUMS TO KEEP THEM IN POWER!
