Undercover video shows full shelves in #Venezuela supermarkets

On Thursday the SKWAWKBOX published a first-hand account of the situation in Venezuela that challenges the prevailing portrayal and exposes the ugly reality of much of the opposition ‘protest’ as violent, even murderous and co-ordinated with ‘economic war’ on the socialist government to create the impression of a failed state.

A key part of the ‘failed state’ narrative is the claim of nationwide shortages in food and other key goods, as corporate and Establishment news attempts to convince that the socialist project has been a disaster.

That shortage-narrative has been raised by objectors to Thursday’s article as proof of the claims of the right-wing opposition.

As Thursday’s article showed, what shortages there are appear to have been manufactured by opposition-run monopoly corporations – but even those appear to have been greatly exaggerated.

For her Empire Files series, journalist Abby Martin filmed undercover in a series of Venezuelan supermarkets – and found something very different to what those watching BBC and other mainstream news would expect:

If seeing is believing, then these simple, everyday scenes that would be familiar to anyone in a developed nation should be enough to cast serious doubt on the perception that the Establishment media seem eager for us to adopt.

  1. Thanks for this article, giving another view of what is happening in Venezuela and not following the MSM which appears to be banging the drum for another “humanitarian intervention”. We’ve seen this with Iraq, Libya and Syria and it’s following the same script; of course, it’s a country with huge resources including OIL! Meanwhile, people seem to be swallowing the MSM stories which only shows the “Opposition’s” point of view. I wish more news outlets what tell us the truth of what is really going on in Venezuela. Dilma Rousseff has been ousted and Macri “installed” in Brazil and Kerchner has gone from Argentina. I think next will be Bolivia and Ecuador.

  2. Great report, SB!

Your coverage of Venezuela is fast becoming the best natural repellent of Establishment cyber-cockroaches (now there’s a sordid career path, wonder if Establishment collaboration will turn out to be a transferable skill in a post-Tory UK?).

  3. MORE EVIDENCE OF THE RIGHTS INTERFERENCE WITH THE TRUTH!
PUT ABOUT ABOUT BY THE MSM, BBC, RADIO AND THE TORY CABINET!
WE’RE BALANCED ON THE LEFT WITH OUR SHADOW CABINET PUTTING DOWN THE LIES AND SPIN THE RIGHT SPUE OUT ON A DAY TO DAY BASIS.
ONLY THOSE WHO LEAN RIGHT, FOLLOW THE LIES, THINKING THEY’RE THE TRUTH!
THANKS AGAIN STEVE FOR YOUR REPORT.

  4. How many towns did you visit? How many states? From the look of it you got no further than the high-class end of Caracas or another major city. This video is no more enlightening than the many more showing fights over frozen chicken when it finally turns up.

mind you, reading the comments was a good laugh and clearly shows the level of your normal readership.

  5. Brilliant short extract that totally nails the lies our media peddle, there are no lies big enough that the establishment won’t tell, American involvement in undermining democratic countries has to be outed by every means we can, they are at the heart of all the troubles in the world and just google America’s Nuclear sites to see who is threatening who in the world.

Here is the whole video filmed from both sides and note how big the demonstrations are in support of the socialist government and how small the numbers are opposing, conversely how violent the opposition are.

Cool, 15 years all in a half hour video….oh, sorry, thought you were being serious. And for any sort of leftie to mention violence at demonstrations as bad has never been on a leftie demonstration: whenever the Left are involved there is violence. Considering ALL the political parties in Venezuela are left wing compared to the UK (and the current crop of UK Conservatives are further left than most recent Labour governments) it’s inevitable…that and closing down the government and putting a supporting echo chamber in it’s place amongst dozens of other things that may just – maybe – have upset a few Venezuelans.
