The SKWAWKBOX has covered – and debunked – the series of increasingly desperate smears by Establishment media and politicians against Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn since the General Election.
From the non-bow at the Queen’s Speech (Corbyn was right, May was wrong to bow), to the outright and provably fake news over student debts, to the portrayal of hard-right, foreign-funded Venezuelan rebels as persecuted innocents to justify demands for an on-holiday Corbyn to condemn Maduro, the over-reaching is ever more desperate.
And apparently ineffective, according to the latest YouGov Westminster voting intention polling:
Labour’s lead increased by a further point – and even this is restrained compared to the leads assessed by some other polling organisations.
Whether this is because the electorate are now more routinely seeing through such desperate pretexts for criticism, because the criticism itself enhances Corbyn’s anti-establishment standing, or for some other reason, it seems the one bullet in the right-wing gun is a blank – at least for now.
It will be interesting to see what barrel-scrapings will be dredged up by the right next – but at this rate Labour supporters will be telling them, “Bring it on”.

There is good supporting evidence, much of it recent and extensive, that personal attacks on a candidate are counter-productive.
As a result, the right wing of the Labour Party, the Tories and the media find themselves in a very difficult position.
Essentially, and at least for the majority of the time, these groups do nothing more than lie, smear, mislead and deceive. Their motivation is the continuation of a failed neoliberal orthodoxy, a discredited orthodoxy shared by the UK, and US. A bankrupt orthodoxy which benefits the few at the vast expense of the many.
And they are determined to not let anything upset the applecart. Because it’s their applecart. Not yours. They get all the apples, you and your family are lucky to get the core.
The right wing’s problem is that every time they attack and smear and lie about Jeremy Corbyn, they boost his favourability ratings as well as the Labour Party’s poll numbers. The two actions seem to be correlated.
These poll numbers also indicate a further correlation between Jeremy’s increasing popularity and the increasing electability of the Labour Party. These numbers, and the General Election result, are further supporting evidence that Jeremy Corbyn drastically enhances the electability of the Labour Party.
It’s about time we had an annual “Smear Awards” ceremony, similar to the BAFTAs… The SMEARIES.
