Coyne ‘may not even come 2nd’ in Unite contest

Word from inside Unite is that General Secretary candidate Gerard Coyne may not even come second behind incumbent Len McCluskey when votes are counted. Union sources tell the SKWAWKBOX that Coyne’s reputation has fallen so low among union members that he looks likely to struggle to garner more support than little-known alternative left-wing candidate Ian Allinson.

Even more than his decision to resort to the anti-union Sun to attack Len McCluskey, members are said to be disgusted that Coyne is so desperate damage Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn that he’s prepared to tarnish Unite’s reputation via smears and innuendo about the perfectly standard financing of a London flat as a base for McCluskey’s duties as General Secretary.

So disgusted, in fact, that one source told this blog,

Coyne’s name has become a byword for toxic.

If Coyne does come third – or even fails to come a convincing second – it will be a damning indictment on the blairite philosophy and worldview he has espoused and which many consider to be obsolete and even morally bankrupt.

If you’re a member of Unite and you agree with that assessment of Coyne’s ‘vision’, it’s vital that you exercise your vote – and do so in favour of Len McCluskey, to send his backers a clear message.

  1. I watched and listened to Ian Allinson today on Daily Politics.
He will go very far in the UNITE UNION, yes, even second place in the election.
I like him very much and his policies.
With his views against those who are trying to bring down Jeremy Corbin on the front and back benches. He said it as it is, no going around the houses, straight to the point, giving his answers with confidence.
My vote is still with Len.
HANG IN THERE IAN, YOUR GOING PLACES SON!

    1. Anyone who supports Corbyn will vote for Len. there is no point in splitting the left vote and Allinson has not responded to this. I’m sick to death of far left parties posturing while others are getting stuck into actually changing things.

  2. Coyne makes statments after statment which only indicate that he is either the worst informed Regional Secretary ever, or that he is a bare faced liar.

As he has been to many policy conferences and rules conferences I can only form a belief that it is the latter.
