‘Bold’ Eagle’s booty-call email shows gobsmacking arrogance

If you say someone’s ‘a bit bold’ where I come from, it’s not a compliment. In that context, it means cheeky, demanding, even arrogant.

So ‘ bold’ is a good word for one Angela Eagle MP this week.

Just over a month after she applauded a ludicrously ill-conceived NEC judgment that supported false claims of abuse at her CLP (constituency Labour party) and resulted in its continuing suspension that prevents her local members meeting until at least January, Ms Eagle has sent them an email asking them to turn up to support her at a meeting she’s arranged – and even to “help out with street stalls and delivering leaflets”, which is no small ask.

This is the political equivalent of an ex who dumps a boy- or girlfriend, tells everyone who’ll listen how glad she is to be rid of the ‘ball and chain’ and then expects ‘booty call’ access whenever she feels like it.

Below is the email she sent, in full. As you can see, no reference at all to the suspension, just an assumption that she’s entitled to call on them in spite of ‘calling them’ in the national media and insisting that she’s justified.

Many Wallasey CLP members are outraged. Rightly so.

Edit: one of Eagle’s constituents wrote an eloquent and telling email in response to her arrogance, see here.

  1. Unbelievably arrogant and doctrinaire, it beggars belief how these politicians behave.
