My application for Labour candidate selection

Very brief, this one. Following encouragement from various people who either know me in person or follow this blog/my comments on Twitter, I’ve just sent in my application to be considered for the Labour Party’s ‘Future Candidates Programme’.

Maybe nothing will come of it, but I wanted to put myself in the mix and be available if I can be of any use. I think in these days any person of good intent who sees the actions of the Con/Dem government for what they are, has to be prepared to get involved in any way they can. For me, this blog is one way – actually standing for election, if it happens, will be another. If I ever did become an MP, it would be a chance to influence directly the things I comment on and campaign about here and elsewhere.

I’d like to encourage every reader of this blog to get involved in his/her own way, too. And if you’re interested in standing for Labour in national or local elections, you can find out about the Future Candidates Programme here http://www.labour.org.uk/nextgeneration. If you’d like to apply, don’t leave it too long as the closing date for applications is 12 October.

Thanks to everyone who suggested I should take this step or encouraged me to do so, and special thanks to Grahame Morris MP (@grahamemorris on Twitter)  and Nigel Page (@nigelrpage) for writing references. If you’re on Twitter, please give them a follow!

Wish me luck!

    1. Thanks mate. I think independent candidates have an important place. But when it comes down to it, I believe in (proper) Labour values – and Labour’s the only way to ensure we don’t get saddled with another Tory/ConDem government.
