Train workers in the CGT rail union in Spain have demanded that operator Renfe cut its contract with an intelligence-linked Israeli firm after the deadly train crash in central Spain this week.

The union has complained that the company monitoring trains and facilities is part of a group created by former members of Israeli military intelligence ‘Shin Bet’ – the equivalent of the UK’s MI5. In April 2026, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu threatened Spain with “an immediate price” in retaliation for Spain’s strong condemnation of Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
The CGT’s rail branch in Galicia has written to Renfe’s president demanding the immediate suspension of Israeli firm I-Sec’s contract to provide security and surveillance service on trains and in stations, workshops and other railway facilities.
I-Sec Aviation Security SL is a subsidiary of ICTS, which was founded in 1982 “by members of two Israeli intelligence services of the Shin Bet”, the letter said. It went on:
From the Railway Sector of CGT in Galicia we consider that the Renfe Group, as a public company that it is, must maintain a clear position against the genocide that the Israeli government is perpetrating against the Palestinian people, not financing Israeli companies with public money and even less companies whose creation has a history with people linked to Israeli security services that do not respect human rights.
I-SEC’s contract in the Galician area covers Renfe’s security work on trains and in stations across all Galician rail lines. The firm also handles surveillance of parked trains and of facilities including train and carriage maintenance workshops. The workers are demanding that:
From the CGT Galicia rail sector we demand suspension of the [Israeli] contract and for it to be tendered to another company not linked to Israel.
The government’s official narrative so far attributes the crash to ‘human error’. But the CGT workers are not the only ones to have suspicions – including engineers:
