      Crucially, The Lancet points out that traumatic deaths are only PART of the total death toll. The journal repeatedly warns that indirect deaths —caused by famine, disease, lack of medical care, and collapsed sanitation— are likely to exceed violent deaths by multiples of 3 to 15.

      1. so, using 03-Sep-25 official Gaza Health Ministry (GHM) numbers (‘over 66,700 people have been reported killed in the Gaza war, including 64,739 Palestinians and 1,983 Israelis’):
         64,739 x 15 = 971,085

         FWIW, 2 things:

         i- maybe the x15 multiplier is likely to be too low.
         ii- GHM numbers are likely to be undercounting: mass burials under rubble, destroyed hospitals, and the exclusion of those who die from chronic illnesses without treatment, starvation and contaminated water…
