Turner non-response on refusal of Beckett’s offers continues – despite read-receipts on WhatsApp questions

Evolve’s screenshots show Turner or his campaign have read press enquiries

One of the messages to Turner’s campaign numbers – two ticks showing it was both received and read

This afternoon, Skwawkbox revealed that left favourite Howard Beckett had offered to stand down in the Unite leadership contest for the sake of the union and the movement, if only his two ‘left’ rivals would agree between themselves who should stand – or stand on a joint ticket. But those and two other offers were flatly refused.

The revelation has increased calls for Beckett to stand, with many observing that such a willingness to sacrifice self-interest for the sake of Unite members and the wider labour movement is exactly what they want in a leader.

Turner’s supporters swarmed all over the revelation – and a subsequent similar post from Evolve Politics – in a desperate bid to negate Beckett’s even greater popularity, but failed. However, from the candidate himself there has been no response, despite press enquiries from EP via four different routes.

A Turner tweet on a different topic showed that he has been online – and the WhatsApp messages to two different campaign numbers show that they have been both received and read – and confirm that Turner, or whoever from his team is holding those numbers for him, have been around on the platform well after the messages were sent:

Lots of noise from Turner’s ‘stans’ trying to hide Beckett’s moral superiority in trying to resolve the situation, but none from Turner – or third candidate Sharon Graham – to explain why they rejected those offers after their campaigns insisted that finding a ‘unity’ candidate was the most important and urgent need.
