Apologists say ambassador mentioned in BBC clip from queen’s 90th birthday was white, but who on panel knew that – and the one black panellist’s discomfort is obvious
Video is circulating today of a clip from the queen’s birthday celebrations, in which white panellists and a BBC presenter laugh as an incident is related in which the queen talked about a foreign ambassador and said she thought she was talking about a gorilla.
As the others titter, the discomfort of the one black person on the sofa – musician will.i.am – is obvious:
One of the white panellists smiles but looks slightly uncomfortable. The queen banned a 1969 BBC documentary in which the clip features, but footage resurfaced, despite talking allegedly about a white US ambassador, but the original footage does not say which ambassador she was talking about – and who on the panel knew that?
The BBC clip was picked up this morning by writer and podcaster @aarjanistan, who commented in apparent reference to the recent government-fuelled and Labour-abetted resurgence in nationalism:
